@ploughboy It certainly will. If TJ Perenara is unhappy with his bosses then he is at liberty to resign and take his trade to other areas where he is less likely to be offended eg the NRL like he indicated he was seriously considering. He then, or course, opens up to being sued for breach of contract ie not fulfilling the terms and conditions of the contract he signed not that long ago.

To rephrase that, TJP is not at liberty to resign because he'd breach his contract and could be sued if he did. He and players who agree with him (I assume there will be quite a few) are between a rock and a hard place, but they can take a stand by speaking up, like he did.

But similarly, the Hurricanes are in a difficult position, because Bowker isn't an employee and they can't fire him. And they'd need to find another sponsor first to fill the hole in their finances if they asked him to withdraw (and he'd do as asked, which I somehow doubt he'd do, because he's such a d*ck).

Going on strike is always an option, that would have an immediate impact I reckon, if they feel that strongly

TJ is seemingly happy to play alongside Fizzell, Reece, Savea etc. I'm sure he'll find a way to work with this fluffybunny

@stargazer isnt he also a shareholder, and they also cant force him to sell, and I doubt they could afford to buy him out by making him an offer a wealthy businessman would be stupid to turn down.

I knew the Hurricanes board were nuts but this is beyond belief. What a tugboat.

As a fan, I hope he is stripped of having anything to do with the Hurricanes moving forward.

They can't, cos he owns part of the canes. He'd have to want to step down. That was my admin deleted point above, not political, but an organisation that can tell someone they don't have a contract via the big screen obviously has someone like that twat on their board. Canes are going/gone they way the blues went. Dysfunctional from the top down. I hope the canes boys strike until that twat stands down

They've been like that for years, since the Hammettuer era, with the minor blip of winning the comp papering over things.

This idiot has made a lot of trouble for himself and the team he part owns. Not smart business practice to actively harm your own investment. I can't believe he expected this to turn out any different in this day and age

Surely your mates don't take you seriously though. You're a waka jumper after all.

Are you still supporting the AB's this year, or have you changed to the Wallabies?

They're too busy rationalising their support for a franchise that shits all over our home province and as recently noticed has straight up pricks on the Board.

Will be interesting to see what comes out of it.

                                Sir Ian Taylor is class

Taylor said on Thursday that boycotting the Hurricanes was not the answer, and it was time to “think about what is unravelling in front of us.

“Lines are being drawn when we should be trying to close the gaps between us,” he said on LinkedIn..

“I understand the anger of those Hurricanes fans who are threatening to boycott games but why not send a much more powerful message by turning out in force to support your team, not just the Pasifika and Māori, but the entire team.

“Don’t let the hurtful comments of one person impact on what they have built together. Imagine the message you send to that Board member, and part owner, sitting up in his corporate box when he sees how you reject the ill informed comments he has made, and continues to double down on.”

Taylor said he had been accused of denigrating the contribution of his European ancestors in favour of his Māori ancestors, but his online education programme celebrated an unbroken link from early voyagers to the country’s world class sailors todayy

What an appalling human being is Troy Bowker. I saw his comments on LinkedIn. A red-necked investment banker and private equity capitalist telling everyone he is “as rich as f*&k” and can say what he likes.

Memo to Troy: You are free to say what you like, but as the part owner of a larger commercial sporting franchise highly dependent on sponsors and public goodwill, you do not get to say it without consequences.

If you were a board member of an NBA or NRL franchise, your head would already be on a stick. Corporate governance is now a big business in itself and were you company a listed entity, hedge funds would currently be shorting the hell out of it.

I wrote to the NZR to express my disgust at this man’s frankly adolescent and boorishly ignorant behaviour and was told in reply:

“The comments made by Troy Bowker are not supported by New Zealand Rugby in any way and are not reflective of the values of our organisation and the aspiration we have for our game across the country. Although we have no jurisdiction over the makeup of our Super Rugby Club Boards, we are in dialogue with the Hurricanes to provide support as required.”

Has it been established that he gave those comments in a public (comments on a post) rather than a more private one (private message), or that they are in fact his comments?

I tried to find the original but could only find screenshots and they didn’t look like the comments as they show up on my LinkedIn.
