Would Tassie accept that? I'm not sure. And I'm not sure North want that, or the AFL will make them.

The report is clear, but frustrating. It tries to have a dollar each way, and give the AFL a clear out to do nothing and say it's all too hard.

Don't think you'd get much opposition from Carlton fans at the moment. They're desperate to be put out of their misery.

Why don't they take the Melbourne Rebels? Kills two birds with one stone - rugby can't support five teams, AFL are desperate for a new one.

nah, according to social media anyway, they are one piece from being in the top 4 according to half their fans.

Clarko would be fucking mad to take that job.

(admission: I have an intense dislike of Carlton because despite them being complete dogshit since i moved to the Country, they are constantly talked up, seem to be a destination club for some ridiculous reason. And then every year they fall in a heap)

@mariner4life Well my wife is a mad Carlton fan, and as such I've adopted them as my team.

There are parallels to the other Blues team, based in Auckland, I think. It's just a team with an endemic culture of underachievement. Once it seeps into the carpets it's a very hard thing to get rid of.

They have the spine of a really good team. It's hard to believe they are going to have the Coleman winner (McKay), a Brownlow contender (Walsh) and an additional All Australian (Weitering), and finish lower on the table than they did last year.

Coaching seems to be an issue, but I think it runs much deeper. Just punting Teague and putting in Clarko or Lyon or Scott or whoever won't fix it.

how good? The last weekend of H&A sees the top 4 all play each other!

Melbourne v Geelong, winner gets the minor premiership
Port v Bulldogs, Dogs have to win or they risk dropping out of the 4

Lions have the Eagles in Brisbane, need to win well, and hope Port beat the Dogs

Sydney get the Gold Coast, but the chances of them finishing higher than 5th are remote.

GWS are in good form, and play Carlton, will still need to win to shore up a spot in the 8

8th is a shootout between Essendon, Freo and West Coast. The Bombers have the percentage, and play Collingwood, so should hold on.

Good last weekend heading in to finals.

actually, just looking at the ladder, and the recent form, this is the most open finals series i can remember. There is no "gimme" game, no team you want to avoid more than others. It wouldn't shock me to see any of the top 7 in the GF. I would be shocked if the Bombers made it.

@mariner4life And the top teams all have issues of their own to deal with. Injuries at Geelong, Sydney and the Bulldogs, Melbourne just being Melbourne, Port and the Lions are hot and cold.

I'm with you - nothing would surprise me this finals series. Throw in games without crowds or over in WA in front of neutral audiences and you've got an absolute lottery.

Eddie Betts to retire after this weekend's game

Would have to be one of the very few universally loved players in the comp. Absolute genius around the goals. Kicks a contender for goal of the year every few weeks. Incredible role model

                          Will be missed.

Great to get a solid win over the Crows on Sunday. I think our first loss this season was against them, and they were a banana skin this time also. Hope the Geelong game is on the box!

Was he the bloke plucked out of the VFL to debut in a GF and almost won best on ground?

                                        No that was Marlon Pickett.

Houli started his career with the Bombers and was in and out of the side (more out than in) for a couple of seasons. Then the Tigers picked him up through the draft.
