I do remember when $5 would get you an absolute feast at Georgie Pie, 3 pies, chips and a milkshake. Of course there were numerous stories about various dodgy things being found in the pies ( ranging from staples to condoms ) but at that price you took your chances I guess.
My $5 was mince and cheese pie, apple pie, chips, sundae, and coke. You could also get a KFC 1/4 pack for the same price.
Possibly off topic but pies to me aren’t nice if they’re made with fruit. I reckon they always have to be savoury. Also pretty much “steak and” or “mince and”……none of that crossover butter chicken pie shit.
I love apple pies. The Georgie Pie ones were awesome. I'm not a pie purist, if they have something in them and they taste nice to me I'll happily eat them.

Yep mate, when I bought pies in Aus they were forever asking me if I wanted tomato sauce, same answer I give here in NZ (though don't tend to get asked it) ,if your pie needs tomato sauce I don't want it. Be honest I has some alright pies on odd occasion there, but on return to NZ on holday (couple of times a year) pie was always on menu, especially if I in Levin and I would go to Sponge Kitchen!! We tend to have better pastry here. Although I can't get a real good one here in Hawera!

Get the occasional good one. Mind you I think the owners of the local (Pastry Paradise) are Kiwis.
My problem is Hawera is the bakery I go to has an Aussie baker, he does some good stuff, but soon as I tried a pie I knew he was Aussie, asked the chick behind counter and she confirmed it!!

3c rolls. I loved those KFC rolls. Dinner box and 3 of those rolls for $1.50. That would be me sorted.

We never had KFC as Dad didn't like it. I think I actually had it once and it was heaven! I knew it was going to be the last time as a family meal as Dad grumbled the whole way through. I vaguely remember lining up at the Ham East KFC and there was a long and orderly queue. Happy happy days.

The Hutt was like greasy central back in the 70s. I remember my folks taking me to Maccas very early on. And my grandparents lived just down the road from KFC. They made me into the foodie I am today
