    Jungle Cruise

This is a good movie. Entertaining, well timed and written. It stars Emily Blunt which in of itself makes it a must see. Dwayne Johnson showing that he's a natural for comedies. And Jake Whitehall playing a mix of himself and his father.

One for families, one for adults. One for the lonely in quarantine who want to be entertained.

Just waiting for it to be free on Disney+. Watched the making of Mandalorian series instead. Outstanding

    Assault on VA-33

    • made by "Deinstitutionalized, LLC"
    • ... which, I assume, is made up of disillusioned ex-employees of The Asylum

And therefore, I assumed I was going to get a really, REALLY shit version of "Assault on Precinct 13" - whether that be the classic, or remake... I wasn't looking forward to it.
Instead - just got a really shit version of Die Hard.

    • In some ways, it was a pleasantly surprising just-shit not-absolute-shit film. Not as sacrilegious as I expected, just typical crappy... shit.
    • Tit-watch: zero
    • Nothing else to say. It's just as tediously shitty as everything above would lead you to expect.

Not sure I've ever used the word "shit" as many times to describe a movie... but at least it's better than "boring".
(Don't get me wrong - the tedious scene-setting for the first 30 minutes or so... boring as shit. But when the action starts, it's just crap, but not overly boring crap.)
1 shitty character stereotypes out of 5 shitty characters who are repeatedly fucking terrible at their jobs but made out to be heroes or antiheroes.

Otherwise known as Die Hard 2.

It would be nice if you could instantly see whether a critic and yourself ever shared the same opinion on movies, so if a critic panned it you could either know instantly you'd agree or love it.

I'm going to see Dune regardless.

@kiwiwomble I remember finding the anachronistic "human potential" stuff pretty off-putting when I tried to read it a long time ago.

agreed, i have a mate who quite happily says its his favourite book, we talked after i read it and i suggested that at the time it was written it may have had a lot of "new ideas" and it could have been quite cutting edge...but for me reading in 2020 having read/watched countless sci-fi/books movies...it was almost contrived, a series of what have become Cliché's bundled together into one book

obviously not really meant as a critique of the book if it came first

...we havent talked about it since

Was still hoping the movie would be awesome as i could see the potential and that first trailer was very very good

Cool, good indicator it’s a good movie if the critics don’t like it.

Villeneuve's movies range from great (Sicario) to garbage (Prisoners), so we'll see.

Think a lot of the mixed reviews are due to this being half of the book.

@kiwiwomble don't read any of the sequels then. The series disappears up its own arsehole never to re-emerge.

@antipodean ideally there could be a list like IMDB shows what an actor has been in, what the reviewer has reviewed, click on it...that way you learn which ones to ignore or pay attention to

I've wanted a system like this for years - for all review type sites. Trip-Advisor, for example.
You've got people on there giving a mcdonalds "restaurant" a 5-star rating, and then others giving top restaurants 1/5 because the sommelier used the wrong hand to pour the wine. And those two people have equal weight (well... as relates to their reviews... I'm guessing the maccas fan probably has a couple more X's in front of the L.)
    Democracy - just... doesn't... work.

The Equalizer. I really enjoyed this film, Denzel Washington was the understated underestimated-meant-to-be-dead ex-spy/fixer, Martin Csokas (one of Shortland Street's own) played his usual role as Russian ex-Spetnaz baddie. Lots of violence, coincidentally the finale was in a hardware store where Den showed everyone how to weaponise all the good stuff in store. 4 dead Russian hoods out of 5 nail guns

I recently watched E2, and at the time I quite enjoyed it. On seeing E1 I would have to downgrade my rating of the sequel. Just not as clever, not as violent, 3.5 wayward inner city teens out of 5 ex-workmates gone bad
