@tim Good Queen: News of the world less known songs. 3 through 10.

@mn5 I think the problem is that they are known for their hits but get behind the hits there is good stuff. So Walk of Life vs Wild West End by Knopfler. The first song makes me puke.

Spread Your Wings is the best song on that album.

As to the popularity of Don't Stop Believin', there was the final scene in The Sopranos, the song was featured in Monster and got a new audience with Rock of Ages.

i fucking hate Don't Stope Believing. With a passion

Spotify fucking loves Queen for some reason. It kept sticking it in my "made for you" playlists even though i never listen to them, and actively skip past most of the songs.

I’m probably not the guy to talk to as I’m not a Dire Straits fan ( although Knopfler is an amazing and unique guitarist ) but I get your point. Kind of a “Stairway to Heaven”, “Smoke on the Water”, “Epic” situation

@bovidae Yep I love that song. But I also like the bluesy song sleeping on the sidewalk and the one with the Spanish guitar who needs you. It just goes to show how talented guys like Brian may are.

Now I like Journey but the suffer from overexposure of certain songs. But Steve Perry had some voice.

This is well before my time but it was on the radio in the car earlier and made me think of someone.

    TUI Billboard?

@tim said in What are you listening to, right now................:

That is some indictment of Spotify listeners. Reads like a playlist from a very tepid Golden Oldies station

@broughie By coincidence I was watching a video with Brian May last week and he was asked the most googled questions. I was surprised that his favourite song is the "Rock You Champions" combo. It is a crowd favourite at their concerts but way down my list.

@bovidae that’s surprising but maybe the crowd reaction is enough.

As I mentioned on the Charlie Watts thread the reason Bill Wyman left the Stones ( amongst others ) is he couldn’t bear the thought of playing ‘I can’t get no satisfaction” one more time…..contrast that with Roger Glover who looks full of joy every time he plays the bassline to “Smoke on the Water”…..how he does that after close to 50 years is anyone’s guess.

@mn5 well maybe he is not flush with money so it’s a trade off.

His band has sold over 100 million records. Deep Purple aren’t quite in that Zep/Stones/Beatles echelon but that’s still a fuck ton of albums. I suspect his bank balance is pretty healthy. Plus I reckon he knows the joy it brings to others ( not me, I got sick of it sometime in the mid 90s but they’ve done loads of other great stuff )

@bovidae Great interview and wow about his guitar. I thought he played a Burns but I guess the pickups are the only things Burns. EVH was a little like that with his guitars and Hendrix. Sounds a little like my Dad as well. He never could afford a strat so a Burns was the next best thing. Sad thing was that if there was not a rift between us I would have gladly given him one of my Strats (G&L). But as it was he bought a Japanese Ibanez Les Paul knock off, tore it apart and added a strat pick guard. I have it. It plays well and I need to buy the correct knobs as he didn’t have the money to complete the project.
