@voodoo it’s a good song. Overplayed. I quite like Escape.

Probably the most un-cool thing I've posted, but I'm listening to a selection of Carpenters' songs.

I can't be the only one who thinks Karen Carpenter's voice is hugely underrated and up there with the very best.

@victor-meldrew awww I adore her voice. I grew up listening to them around the house as my Mum loved them, still does. Such an effortless and clear voice, just lovely.

That's the song which grabbed me. Amazing singing - so controlled and emotive.

She does do a nice job. Song is actually titled “Groupie (Superstar)” and written (and orig recorded) by Bonnie Bramlett. At one time Delaney & Bonnie and Friends were just about the hottest live act going. Clapton took them touring in support of Blind Faith, and Bonnie & Delaney blew them off stage every night, so much so that Clapton joined them. Sadly the band was cannibalized by Joe Cocker (the song is performed by, I think, Rita Coolidge on the live “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” double-LP), Leon Russell, George Harrison and Little Feat. So Bonnie & Delaney are now obscure footnotes. Bonnie now probably best remembered for punching-out Elvis Costello after he called James Brown and Ray Charles the n-word, tsk-tsk, as well as her role on the Rosanne Barr tv sitcom.

Here she is, briefly, in “Vanishing Point”:

If I’m not mistaken, I seem to recall Karen destroyed John Bonham in Playboy magazine readers poll for “Best Drummer.” Twice.

While painting the house on a lovely still Wellington day over the weekend I listened to the first two Stone Temple Pilots albums in their entirety. Thanks YouTube.

They were never as revered as Nirvana and Scott Weiland did sound a bit like Eddie Vedder but fuck all that, they were a MUCH better band than either of them in my ( possibly unpopular ) opinion. It was great hearing a couple of album tracks I hadn’t heard since I had these on CD many years ago as well as the bangers everyone knows.

@mn5 I think you are literally the only muso I know who really digs STP & would put them above PJ.

Most people think they are a bit of a rip off of other music from that era.

I dig them as well though, they have some banging' tunes in their back catalogue.

I'd still choose Pearl Jam over them though.

It was all around the same time though so not sure how they coulda ripped off the Seattle sound, I think it was more a case of them being influenced by the same bands and having a similar sort of sound.

Weiland was a brilliant singer, weird dude though.
