I am really digging this Police Running man thing and how forces across the globe are responding. Diffferent ones pop up on my Facebook and I am yet to see one that didn't make me smile.

When I saw that I thought you'd be stoked. It's cool to see them cutting loose a bit. Did you ever see that video of those American soldiers remaking that lady Gaga video? I think they got in trouble because they were all in Iraq etc at the time, it was pretty cool though

Wasn't Slater convicted of something a few years ago? How is he eligible for diversion? (I'm not 100% how diversion works but assumed it was for first offences but seems there's a good chance I'm completely wrong).

yeah pretty sure Diversion is for those without any prior convictions, although if you re-offend, they may look at it when considering sentencing (in terms of pattern, behavior, character)

http://www.police.govt.nz/about-us/programmes-initiatives/adult-diversion-scheme/about

generally, it is the offender's first offence

the offence is not serious

the offender has accepted full responsibility for the offences as described in the summary of facts

the offender has been explained their legal rights

the offender agrees to the terms (conditions) of diversion.

Breaching other people's name suppression orders (I think).

In this instance, I suspect sending him off to diversion with Alanis ringing in his ears and a fair chunk of the country taking delight in his misfortune is probably punishment enough.
