I am not writing him off,But I can see why The Crusaders didn’t offer him a full contract they thought he wasnt ready,
IMO they were right@chris Yeah that's fair. Having said that, I do see more upside to him than Havili and even Christie, not that the Crusaders will care too much as they usually pluck someone from somewhere. Still a year or 2 away imo from being fuy ready for SR.

@african-monkey Wouldn't be shocked to see a wider training group player get selected ahead of him next year, if there's an injury.

If the Chiefs sign Nock and let Ratima go, I might be a bit pissed.
If they can keep Cortez on a development contract and have four, then that might be different.

@nogusta That's a little surprising after his improved consistency with his 'work ons' (passing quality and option taking) last season, and that they seemed to favor him over Nock in the game day squad. He is an outstanding defender and very physical player so I did not mind in the squad as a different style option from Little Red and Nock. It all depends who is replacing him I guess. I wonder where he is going and will another team pick him up? I like Nock though so I hope that means that he is staying after the earlier rumors that he wanted out.

@daffy-jaffy released might be the 'official' line if you know what I mean. I think he's on his way to France. Apparently they were considering Richard Judd but opted for the young gun local so Taufa Funaki the likely replacement.
@nogusta If so its a slight risk as he only has a handful of first class games after losing a whole season last year with injury but I am glad they are going for the young (21) local player. He is also a big physical player so it would be a bit of like for like with Ruru style wise.

@nogusta correct , I got that confirmed yesterday, Ruru had been asking to be released from his Auckland contract at the beginning of the season .

I am surprised that the Blues are yet to confirm who the new Coach will be to replace Tana. It was a while ago that it was mentioned on here that Craig McGath was offered the job, but no news since.

Segner has the tools, he just needs to add a bit of man strength to his game, and learning from one of the best 7s in the country Dalton Papali'i will help develop his game.

@african-monkey if he wasn’t German would he have all the hype. Guys like Dom Gardiner ,Fletcher Anderson , Corey Kellow , Joe Brial are just as good. You have to remember there is a salary cap in super rugby too.

@chchfanatic Yeah, I get where you're coming from, but I do see more upside to his game than your current 7s in the Crusaders starting lineup (not saying that he is better than them yet but I think he will end up being better than them). Can't comment on the younger brigade as I haven't seen enough of them.
In regards to him being German, well, he has had almost 2 full seasons in the Ta$man 23 and was part of their title winning side last season, so I wouldn't say that his nationality has a lot to do with his profile, although I do see the angle you are coming from with that one haha.

@african-monkey yeah I meant the story of a German kid trying to make abs. Not him being german. He’s good but the money he is being paid is he worth the salary cap space.

Think you will find Corey Kellow will be a much better 7 than Segner in the future.
Time will tell on Segner but I don't think he is a SR player by a long way as yet.edit. Kellow also is a year younger than Segner.
