@daffy-jaffy the answer is no they wouldn’t. Because they know how to manage their squad. They have young guys always coming thru. Zach Gallagher , Jamie Hannah , Fiti saa.

I keep hearing about these youngsters coming through at Canterbury/Crusaders, but apart from the odd exception (Jordan, to a lesser extent Grace) the emerging players have either buggered off elsewhere or have been very disappointing. For example, it wasn't long ago some were calling McLeod a future AB. Then we all saw him play....

Even the two big props haven't exactly covered themselves in glory for Canterbury this year.

@crazy-horse Re: those Props - I am not sold on Tamaiti Williams as yet but I rate Newell. Kinda getting away from a Blues discussion. sorry.

@daffy-jaffy It makes no sense not to contract Caird.

I know someone mentioned he might be involved with the Chiefs to cover for the 3 AB locks.

@bovidae I like what Caird brings to the game as a Lock, so I don't know what they think is lacking in his game. He did spend a season in the Blues wider training group before going to the Warratahs so they know him pretty well. There must be some reason that he gets overlooked.

Given the season write offs for Auckland, North Harbour & Counties I'm pleased to see Blues sign players who had a proper NPC. Players from those 3 unions are really going to be on the back foot.

Has Tele’a officially re-signed with the Blues?

This Insta post by the Blues today may suggest he’s re-signed as he’s got all the kit on.

Blues are assembling a reasonable squad with a few Crusader discards including the coach.

chip on the shoulder about the big smoke eh 🙂

Seriously, though, weak at hooker, lock, 9 -- and probaby 12. I'm excited to see Zarn in year 2 - he was classy last year

@canes4life Yeah good point - they also featured him in another Blues social post last week so i'd say he's locked in. The 12 spot I imagine will be between him, Plummer and Tamati Tua with Plummer probably favourite to get first crack.

@kiwimurph I think Nogusta mentioned a while back that he still had a year to run on his contract. I hope Corey Evans will eventually be in the mix for 12. He's green I know but I really rate his potential.

Leon was so discarded he played over 100 games for the Crusaders.

Well done on winning that title but it wasn't really a true title. The Blues never had to play the Crusaders to win it. Current super rugby stats has 39 Crusaders wins to 11 Blues wins.Since SR started.
When was the last time the Blues beat the Crusaders,Thats not a shitty question just I cant remember exactly was it 3 years ago ?.
Don't get me wrong I am glad to see the Blues on the way up Super Rugby needs it.
But that title doesn't really cut it compared to Super Rugby Aotearoa.
And some of you will call me Salty because the Blues won a lesser title,But I am just pointing out a few truths.
                      Enjoy the post .

It is a masterstroke,As it will give Fergus Burke extreme confidence that there is someone worse as a First Five option within the squad.

I'm sorry I didn't know there was a rule that a competition isn't a real competition unless the winner has played the Crusaders.
And if the Crusaders weren't good enough to win it, and they were in the competition weren't they, maybe then it is actually a GREATER competition.
Because the Blues have won both comps.
But you won't hear me getting salty about it.
Cos it was just regards some poster's remark about "Crusaders discards".
If you think about it, I was defending the reputation of some former Crusader players.

Blues are assembling a reasonable squad with a few Crusader discards including the coach.

Leon was so discarded he played over 100 games for the Crusaders.
Here is a picture of the Blues looking very discarded.
                                  Thanks for rubbing it in.

picture of discarded players and coach in utter woe

                                  Enjoy the post .

tell me, how did you feel about the Crusaders players crying on the field after missing the final? Think it didn't matter to them?

After all of this banter I'm looking forward to the first Blues-Crusaders game next year. 🙂

@nzzp I disagree with my crusaders mate above. It was a true title and we weren’t good enough. We knew the rules beforehand.

be honest, you're not really from Christchurch are you 😄

Look, after the drought we had, and the inept adminstration, getting any title is a bonus. We'll take it ... UEFA cups still count right.

Ahhh I think we won those games and went through unbeaten.
Great competition if you go through unbeaten and can’t make the play offs.
