Shanahan is on the hot seat for the 49ers. What a fall from grace for him - two years ago he was seen as a genius coach. 49ers are constantly sloppy and ill prepared - fumbles, penalties, bad tackling etc. Also add in some very questionable personnel decisions (Kyle is effectively the GM as well).

I've been on the bandwagon of excuse making for the 49ers before this season - there's no more excuses. They just got their ass handed to them by Colt McCoy.

A coaching record of 32-40 after 5 seasons where Kyle has pretty much full control of everything.

There are serious question marks over whether Shanahan is the best coach to develop Lance.

Having said all that - I can't see the 49ers ownership firing Shanahan this season.

Broncos should have new coaching staff as well

AFC is frikken crazy. Two teams have 6 wins. 8 teams have 5 wins, and that number could be 9 if the Steelers get up tomorrow

Did not see that coming. Defence won't dominate like that each week, but well done Titans to find a way to win without the King.

And the Raiders cut another first round pick, Damon Arnette. This time he made a video of himself with automatic weapons and made some death threats. Also had an ongoing civil case for a hit and run.

He was taken with one of the first round picks they got from the bears in the Khalil Mack trade, and also in 2020 (same year as Ruggs).

The raiders 2020 draft might just be the biggest bust ever. Two firsts, and both cut in their second year.

@kiwimurph Not to mention trading up to take Trey Lance, who barely gets on the field. They are hot and cold on Aiyuk. Trey Sermon seems to be a bust. They are in the bottom three for roster management I reckon.

Back to where it all began for Cam, signs with the Panthers. Darnold out for about 4 weeks with a shoulder injury. Will be fun to watch I think.

OBJ also lands with the Rams. Very stacked WR corps now. Will be interesting to see how the workload is split and how OBJ handles potentially being WR3.

The crazy thing is obj is basically free. Thanks to offset language in the browns deal the Rams contract is deducted from his browns guarantee so he's officially on the vet minimum, which is about 1 million per year.

He'll be a free agent again at the end of the year so will be interesting to see what happens then.

The Evil Empire aren't dead yet, in fact they are very much fucking alive. That was huge this morning

    Crazy season rolls on
    Tampa lose to Washington
Cam Newton's return has the Panthers running rough-shod over the Cards
Poor old Detroit just can not win
Dallas put the Falcons right back in their box

    The upsets continue.

    49ers trounce the Rams 31-10.

I think that's 5 in a row for 49ers wins over the Rams.

The 49ers run dependent offense is so attritional. No wonder they get so many injuries. It will be interesting if they try to pass more when Lance becomes the starter

does anybody want to win the bloody thing?

the best record through 10 games is 8-2! There are a lot of 6-win teams as well.

Pretty much no single game looks a given, a good team is only an injured quarterback away from being a shit team.

it's been this way for a while. QB effects are disproportionate. It's amazing.

    interesting article - I don't think it's paywalled.

    In the Throws of Change

    In the Throws of Change

As defenses threatened to overwhelm a generation of homogeneous passers, quarterbacks were saved by an evolution, which has sparked a coaching revolution. How the exceptional became the norm.

I've been watching the Post-Brady Pats this year, with Mac Jones.

Bill Belichek is a goddamn genius. He has this ability to pick up a few journeyman, and turn them into an absolute weapon on defence. He does it year after year, it's remarkable.

The contrast with the ABs is pretty stark- you can visibly see the unit improving the longer they get coached and play together.

Also, he's bringing Jones along really well. I was anti the Evil Empire, but bloody hell it's remarkable to watch what Bill is doing at the moment.

Jones is being made to look like the pick of the new QBs, sitting at the foot of the master

He's doing a really nice job of building an offence that Jones is comfortable with and minimizes risk. Will be interesting to see how he develops. Until recently all he did was check down but lately he's opening up a bit, might be a sign than he's starting to see the field better and have more time to read the play.

This class is a nice example of how hard it is to play QB in the NFL. 'Generational' talent Trevor Lawrence is struggling, Fields, Wilson and Lance look barely startable. Will be very interesting to see what they're all looking like at the end of next season. Generally if they're going to break through they'll be at least looking like competent starters by then. Lance maybe the exception if Jimmy G is playing well enough to keep him on the bench. But the others have no talent is front of them so if they're not starters by then they never will be.
