@kruse ha, pretty much any movie with a time constraint on it, there is always time to explain something or have a hug/kiss, I think in that situation, the space time continuum comes to a complete stop allowing for such high emotion.

    The Last Duel

Had the day off with Mrs Boo today and went to an early (9:30) movie.

Only a few oldies at the cinema, pretty much fitting the demographic of grey nomads deserting the caravan parks as the weather was a but dodgy.

But they all trooped into James Bond. So we had our cinema completely to ourselves. Just the two of us in the whole place. Surreal and kind of cool. Am spolit for going to the movies with other people ever again.

As for the movie, an interesting take on true story.

Two blokes, initially close friends, one (Kylo Ren) was the godfather to the other guy's (Matt Damon) son etc, grow increasingly bitter with each other, until Kylo becomes obsessed with Damon's wife (Jodie Comer).

Kylo, thinking he is in love pays her a visit, and rapes her (or does he?).

The denouement is the trial by combat alluded to in the title. "Last", as it was the last "judicial duel" in France. Truth decided by whoever won the duel as the outcome is ordained by God.

Told in three chapters (makes for a long movie, nearly 3 hours), from the perspective of each of the characters in turn, Carrouges (Damon), Le Gris (Kylo), and Marguerite.

Interesting to see how the character of the characters change in each chapter, and to see how they each perceive certain events.

Won't go in too much detail about the trial or the duel (more Medieval jousting and bashing with sharp heavy objects than any sort of chivalrous fencing with epees - real barbaric stuff). But if there's concern about women being believed about rape in the 21st century spare a thought for those speaking up in the 14th.

Have read a bit of background to the actual story this arvo. Apparently the movie gets it pretty close, and it is quite well known, and contentious, in France.

    Recommended.

3.5 weird hairdos out of 5 gruesome stabbings through the mouth with a broken sword.

There is that school of thought that says "it's a film about zombies living in Las Vegas and you're complaining about a lack of realism in the plot" and I get that but in the context of the film, their behaviour is fine all the way until the end and then they do really dumb stuff for no reason.

    It irks me.

Yep - I view it as "Yes, I've agreed to 'buy in' to a world where there are zombies. And fuck it, yeah a zombie tiger. If there's a tiger - why not throw in a horse? And sure - why the fuck not, this outbreak was somehow contained in a shipping-container quarantine zone. That's the rules of the world we're about to watch. Cool, understood. But... nobody warned me that normal people would become absolutely fucking braindead (see what I did there?) - like proper suicidal stupid. Fuck off."

you not watched too many movies then, particularly the fantasy/thriller/horror genre? 😉

Half the reason zombies exist in these movies is because of stupid....I mean how did TWD have a dozen seasons if people werent fucking morons unable to evade/escape from zombies that walk as quick as my kids when I ask them to come and help me with something.

Okay - yeah, I misspoke.... every movie in history, and indeed - real life - should have warned me that normal people are dumb-as-fuck. But... there is a critical mass of stupidity which tips the scales from "sigh... people" to "NO. No, no, no".
And stopping for chit-chats, or a bit of romance, or just having a nap or whatever - when there's a VERY fucking tight dead-line on a nuclear-fucking-bomb!. That just tipped the scales.

Ok so 3.5 Q’s out of 5 M’s for No time to Die. Good story line, acting not quite there in places. But plenty of Bond humour and obviously action a plenty.

Not going to say too much about the movie so as to avoid spoilers but worth a look if you are a Bond fan like me from way back.

OK one spoiler Ana de Armas is a babe and there are even rumours she may even get her own Bond spin-off which would be cool.

And I think I may have a theory on the next Bond actor.

That would also be an apt title for a very dumb action movie that I would pay to see. In the front row, with a bucket of very loud popcorn.

    Jungle Cruise

Did you like Indiana Jones? Of course you did, it's the pinnacle of adventure movies, especially built around an ancient power

Did you like the Mummy? Of course you did, an excellent adventure movie about an ancient power involving a plucky English woman and her fucking useless brother

This movie is not these movies

The Rock and Emily Blunt is a lot of charisma, and even they cannot rescue this turd

I'm not pulling punches here, this movie sucks. Do not pay for it. Do not get sucked in to watching it with your kids. It's utter rubbish.

0 good rock moments out of 5 Blunt isn't even hot in this

    Avoid

On reading this review I was compelled to look up this on IMDB. Based on a ride in Disneyland tells me all I need to know and backs up your review.

Am 1/3 in (family stuff got in the way) and not that impressed. came across as tired and formulaic. Still fun to watch but lacks the edge of Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace. Trying too hard to be clever and, in parts, woke.

Next Bond? I'd go for Idris Elba. Has the right mix of menace, cool, screen presence and is just so British.
