    This is scarily soon.

Less than a year to bring in Finn Allen for Guptill, Devon not to punch his bat, and pitches where we won't need two spinners.

They have a WC every year???

It's hard to track, but they seem to have moved back to a T20 World Cup every two years, and I think this is the 2020 one rescheduled.

I wonder if a knockout tournament with 3 match series would be more fun. Less chance of freak results, less of a lottery, and plenty of meaningful games. Would be good fun; take 16 sides, play 4 rounds (12 games), do it in 3 weeks. Then the winner is actually the winner, tosses less likely to influence.

So disappointing to see the strengths of the team throughout the tournament fade at just the wrong time.

Honourable mentions to Williamson and Boult for stepping up on the big stage.

Time to start looking for Guptill's replacement. Someone will probably find stats to disprove this, but it increasingly seems like he's regressed to the flat track bully stage since 2019.

For the Australians, Hazlewood more than made up for Starc laying out a five star buffet. Marsh walked out to bat like a man determined to win the game by himself, and that six off the first ball was the start of how he went on.

There was a big lesson for the junior cricketers who were watching this week. Don't punch your bat...

So to summarise, Tauranga produces world class cricketers and the rest of New Zealand sucks.

Worst part was I woke and 4am and told myself that I had it recorded and to just go back to sleep. 5 mins of wondering how we were going and I was up watching live.

    Gah!!

That summer is bookended by World Cups. The final for the T20 CWC is in November and then the ODI CWC starts in February.

Why not remove the over limit and let teams bat for as long as they wish, let teams bat twice so teams bat in a variety of conditions, play it over five days and use a red ball?

Honestly, just bouncing ideas around - thinking of T20 as more like baseball, with mini-series. Baseball is similar in the one-off lottery nature of it.

Mini series of 3 games in 3 days isn't unreasonable, with a rest day between series. If you have enough venues, it's a 15 day tournament (needs doubleheaders and 4 venues to achieve that). Would be hella good fun, show exposure to minnows, and generate shedloads of content.

Way too slow and boring, as if anyone would watch that.

Is there any other sport where a coin toss is so influential on the result?

I had two big fears about this game.

    1. We would get pumped; and
    2. We would win the toss and still get pumped.

Though, really, I was pretty confident Oz would win the toss. (I knew it, Dan!).

I should have had more faith in Kane to save us from a pumping. Haven't watched the game, but the scoreboard makes it look like Guppy was probably a bit inhibited by Conway's absence?

Philips definitely needed to go from ball 1. We needed 20 from 10 balls from him and leave Jimmy and Seifert to close out the last 4-5 overs, with Kane.

NZ didn't seem to complain too much about the coin toss before the India and England games...
Lose one of those tosses and there is fair chance we don't even reach the final.

@NTA will go on about Marsh winning the game for Oz for the rest of the year. It’s sickening how much he loves and rates that guy.

I feel better losing with Marsh the hero, could have been worse if it had been Warner Wade or Maxwell. Also I think Finch has claimed a first - the first Australian Captain to ever publicly acknowledge that NZ are a good team

The only positive for me was 6-1 on Aus beating NZ in the final before the semis..We have such a terrible record against Aus in CWC finals matches, I keep hoping it will change, it doesnt.

I'm not complaining. It's a legitimate question, though I'm not sure there is a better way.

Interesting scheduling. It would have been a victorious homecoming for them had the tournament worked out differently for India.
