Hooroo, I think you will find that it isn't APAs that you don't like just strong hop flavours as opposed to hop bittering.

Anything going for use of hop flavours will go heavy on them to bring them forward and that seems to be what doesn't agree with your palate irrespective of what hop is used (whether the citrusy US hops styles or the fruity/grassy NZ ones).

Stick with the more traditional bittering (Saaz type) hops and you won't go wrong or feel like you have wasted $.

That way you can settle on good malt flavour with the right balance of bittering for thirst quenching.

Something bland and tasteless......Budweiser or Miller should do the trick

No offence taken though, I love a good APA or IPA but totally get that some people find them a bit much. As a thirst quencher on a stinking hot day they aren't the best but in the temperate weather we're having at the moment I find they're perfect. Without sounding like a complete cock I think the kiwi palate on the whole still likes it's beer with far less of an "attack" of taste if that makes sense.

During the Summer of 07/08 I drunk nothing but Steinlager Pure, it's still a drop that isn't without it's merits but I definitely prefer my brews to be a bit more flavoursome nowadays.

I still go between Waikato, Panhead Blue and Garage Project 'Beer'

I love one of the Emersons too. The Pilsner I think it is.

For those of us in the dry country

Had a crack at these bad boys. Not a bad Pale Ale, more on the bitter side, perhaps a tad fruity? Good for the price. Has sessionability. However they seem to have some issues with consistency, i have had a couple of bottles in the carton that tasted noticeably different to the others

If you feel like splashing a bit on those wildly expensive beers i was railing against earlier, it would be hard to go past these bad boys. They come in packs of 4 for fucks sake, and still cost $20. But it tastes awesome

You have to try Rocky Knob when you come back home for a holiday then, had one last week and boy it was good. In true beer piston wristed gibbon style I poured it and let it sit in the jug for a few minutes which I'm fairly certain does nothing for the taste but feels right to do so with such a top quality drop.

I'll happily drink instant coffee, I think 15$ is on the pricy side for wine......

But I'll be a proud beer <strike>piston wristed gibbon</strike> snob til the day I die.

Had a beer disaster over the weekend. Chucked a couple in the freezer and forgot about them and put them on the bench to hiff out. True-love sees them and throws them in the fridge.

I go out to the farm and grab acouple of cans as I will be a while and of course grabbed the two that had been frozen (hadn't buckled). Got to otherside of farm and cracked one to have a really cold flat beer.

Was gutted as it took a while to get through and then I had a not so cold flat beer to follow up!

These are the life problems I get stuck with!!!

I reckon you probably have it right with what you drink. That 'Beer' from Garage Project is a well made drop.

But if you can drink Waikato I can't understand how you could find any non-Australian beer terrible.

Well, you could say that.....or you could say they're taking the piss and charging 3.99 a can for something which is basically identical to Macs Gold.

'Beer' is a nice clean crisp brew. They purposely set out to make a 'straight' Pilsner type with good ingredients but not trying to be clever in any way. I think they succeeded well.

Macs Gold is more malty than Beer.

The biggest difference is that it is properly brewed and not a 'malt liquor'.

Macs Gold might not be the best example granted but it is still pricy for what it is.
