love him or hate him, have you thought about getting someone like the "legend of marty banks" dude to talk it up, he has thousands of followers now and could be a route into getting players etc behind it too

@kiwiwomble Nah, he's just an individual fan like us, who has used the name of a popular rugby player to gain followers. If anyone of us started a "King Richie" account on social media with a profile picture of McCaw and had the time/money to travel around the country and post a lot of rugby stuff, he'd also get many followers.

Support is needed from someone who has actually achieved something in rugby. Get someone like McCaw or Carter to support it. Carter seems very approachable.

@stargazer i mean, he's got nearly 60k followers and manages to do this professionally, he's always getting in with various unions and chats with players, no one actually thinks its Marty Banks

My point was While Richie and DC have achieved actual stuff on the pitch, theyre now leading semi personal lives and so less likely to reply to a DM than someone actually trying to make a living of rugby hype, a stepping stone

was thinking about this @Davesofthunder. I think you have to go down the line of getting a union on board to present it. It needs to be on the field, after a game and that needs a union to accept it.

So, the challenge is to get a line of communication into NZRU or ARU (current holders). Arguably it may need World Rugby sanctioning as well.

Players may not be the best avenue for that. You coudl do worse than hit up Dylan Cleaver (who's just gone out on his own, and must have good rugby connections with players and the NZRU)... he can probably put out some feelers if he's interested. Will no doubt be active on twitter as well.

Alternatively, try and get others on board to drive this ... GAGR seem linked to the ARU, and as current holders they may be interested. You're into this chicken/egg though of getting a shield manufactured, but then trying to get it actually recognised or presented.

Good luck - I'm sure the Fern Hive Mind will come up with more ideas as well

    Thanks all

I tend to think it will take building a groundswell of fan support to really have World Rugby take notice.

But to get that is going to require a blend of social media Influencers, regular fans, journalists and a few officials onside.

Ultimately I suspect it will remain a game of patience.

I have thought about setting up a patreon or similar and stepping up content by trying to make something out of it so I am just fulltime focused on the shields

Pipedream probably but either that or a sponsorship deal where funds pay for Shields to be made but also my time to actually officially be fulltime the spokesman

For the moment I just do it all and explain to my wife that it is isn't that much spent on software and hosting 😀

So I live about 10k from Sarugby headquarters. It can't be that expensive - if SA wins this weekend, let's do a crowdfund and I deliver it to SArugby and we make this a real thing

(Thanks mod - started a new thread without checking)

I've been surprised that a national union hasn't created a trophy yet. A fan lead effort might be the best chance.

Saffa fans can be a bit intense.. that would be a positive for something like this

    @Davesofthunder ?

@duluth just to expand - the plan was to check with the creator if it was cool. Then getting SArugby to buy in - if it fails at any point, find the poorest rugby club in Cape town and donate the funds by way of mouth guards.

I am actually thinking about just finding a woodworking class (or a youtube woodworker who wants an interesting project) and just getting it done.

I have spent so much time on the shield that the idea I actually create the physical shields appeal a lot!

Oh fuck, only now read this - let's get it done

If SA wins this weekend I'll do the admin and we get this done

Oh and truthfully you don't even need a Real Shield I had a foamex Utrecht Shield printed for last weekend when I went to the women's match and it worked a treat with the players holding it happily

Until it is officially recognised by World Rugby there isn't much point giving a real one to a union as they cannot be seen to support unofficial tournaments etc.

But the foamex Shield cost me just over £30 and I can give the print file to anyone so there can be lots of fans with them and they can really make an impact getting pictures etc

    Also a great signature collector!

Tickets are harder to get to Twickenham (even though I live a ten minute walk away!) But if I jad of been going tomorrow I would have made a Raeburn Shield too

Thanks, was pretty stoked to have it in real print.

Something very "real" about picking up a paper and seeing it in there 😀

Quite cool getting the 7 year old to read the article and being like "see if you recognise any names" 😄

    @Stargazer

    Thank you

That was a very cool weekend! Some amazing women who just went ahead and organised an international.

Cool thing is, it was only Utrecht because the men wouldn't let them have the national field in Amsterdam. Now Utrecht has a Shield named after it 😁

    And as of today...

The All Blacks hold the Raeburn Shield
