Gravity

Turns out I got this as a freebie on Google Movies and hadn't gotten around to it.

I thought it was pretty damn good to the point where I didn't notice how long it was going. As I was watching late at night I checked regularly and was surprised at one point that it was more than halfway through.

There is a lot of stuff that goes by without dialogue, but the atmosphere created around Bullock's character is quite well done, particularly the foley work which is exceptional. You get a real feel for the isolation and most importantly the lack of sound.

A couple of stretches of the imagination but nothing a good scifi film wouldn't engage in.

I give it four scantily-clad Sandra Bullocks out of 5.

Deadpool was ok, for a superhero movie which I despise as a rule ( apart from Batman, that was awesome....aw and the first Iron Man as well ).

Good rule. Lasted about three seconds.

$762M gross is "ok" these days I guess - highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. For a budget of around $58M that is alright.

Main thing is what its done to the genre: making studios rethink their approach to these movies to the point where Suicide Squad is getting some reshoots.

Finally watched the H8ful Eight. Agree with most of what was said on here.....some awesome performances from all the characters, one I was most impressed with overall was the sheriff who definitely became more sympathetic as the movie went on. SLJ, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen and Tim Roth were great too but nothing I hadn't seen from any of them before. Took me about 5 hours to get through on account of a few interruptions and that notwithstanding it was pretty long and definitely in the "bottom rung" of Tarantinos efforts alongside Death Proof and Kill Bill ( but better than those two ). No where near as quotable as the likes of Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown either.....Did anyone else cringe with fucken embarrassment with QT insisting on Zoe Bell having a cameo and busting out the most "New Zillind" accent possible ? I know his movies are pretty liberal with the truth and history but what a kiwi chick from Auckland was doing in a movie set in the old west is anyones fucken guess....Madsen shooting her was very satisfying.

Also caught an older flick over the weekend "Dune", this was a version over three hours long. I remember it from when I was young and it's effects have certainly dated shall we say, definitely a cool story but let down by too much confusion and annoying voiceovers. Sting was very cool as the Barons bad nephew but wasn't in it too much. Apparently David Lynch ( who had turned down Return of the Jedi for this ) never speaks of it in interviews......

I think the only genuinely pretty crap flick QT has done so far is Death Proof despite Kurt Russell being pretty damn amusing in it, the rest just suuuuuuucccccckkkked.

Kill Bill ( I count them as one movie ) is decent enough but nowhere near his best in my opinion, my order would go something like......

Pulp Fiction

Inglorious Basterds

Jackie Brown

Reservoir Dogs

Django

Hateful 8

Kill Bill

Death Proof

Yours ?

Foxtel have been playing the original X-Men movies over the week. I've watched the first 3 over the last 3 nights

The first one is a pretty entertaining movie

The 2nd one is a lot weaker than i remembered

The 3rd one is a steaming pile of garbage

I think the Batman movies are boring shite.... so I dont talk about them much.. as me saying they are boring shite numerous times would be kinda pointless.
