Yeah. Had that last night. Like the style they have developed there. Takes away the fruit juice element of a hazy but keeps the mouth feel.
    Refreshingly dry.

Not sure where you get that from. Have you not been to their taproom and tried their non supermarket brews?
Or are you looking for some Yuzu extrahazy ice cream IIIPA?

They sold to Lion. This apparently fucked up the recipe for Super charger ( not sure how true this is to be fair )

Imagination based on people getting wanky about the sell out I’d say.
Same brewery, same brewer, same recipes, more money to play with and great brisket burgers.

@crucial Yeah nah. Definitely had some bad batches after selling.

I did a bit of research and asking around. Like most things the reality falls somewhere between the two points of view.
In short the recipe has not changed, however quite a bit of supercharger is brewed in Auckland now simply because of popularity and production capacity. Same with the Pils. These brews end up both on tap and some of the bottled/canned.

The recipe and method has not changed however some the suppliers of ingredients have so source products may differ very slightly. The biggest difference is in the scaling up and larger/smaller batches can make a brew slightly different which I guess is where the arguments about these brews no longer being 'craft' comes in. Funny thing is that to me the point about 'craft' is that you will get variations more than factory like consistency so you probably never got one exact pre-buyout brew and one pot-buyout anyway.

There was also a problem with a couple of batches a few years back that didn't show up until they had been in the bottles for a while and stock had to be pulled back from shops. This came soon after buyout and was latched onto by 'fans' as indicative of low standards.

The big advantage with a buyout is that you get the funding to get your beer in more mouths (which is kind of the point) and have fun on the side making trial brews with no financial pressures.

Panhead and Emersons have worked this out way better than Mac's and Montieths ever did (they just sold and walked away) or Tuatara who have become very uninteresting and fallen to an inbetween zone like Moa. Not considered interesting or bland just somewhere in the middle.

If you want your old Supercharger experience back go to the brewery tap room and you'll get a fresh small batch off the tap.

Tuatara are just a nonentity now. I can’t remember the last time I had a new beer from them.

Behemoth, Urbanaut, Shining Peak, McLeods and any number of others have just blitzed them.

As for Panhead well it’s the old adage, if you get one bad batch you’re gonna tell the world, if it’s decent you’ll just keep your mouth shut, drink and enjoy it quietly.

@crucial yeah all fair enough mate, I couldn't care less about the craftiness of it, and in general them selling out means more good beer in places that previously had no good beer, so that's a big win as far as I'm concerned. But in my anecdotal experience, the quality and consistency dipped, including one genuinely faulty batch. There's plenty of small still crafty breweries whose quality control is far far worse of course, but its not a myth that Panhead had some issues.

Any self respecting ferner would die before admitting they were wrong.

Anyway, back to beer talk. Had an espresso Martini Stout from Deep Creek. Really, REALLY good and the moment I started it I wished I’d had another.
