@canefan my ideal would be that he gets that, and goes out on his own terms on a high with at least one more ton.
From there, given most of our other batsmen are knocking on 30 or older, we might have another 4-5 years of high quality batting before retirements decimate us.

Going back to the Latham / Conway / Young / Kane / Rosco / Nicholls 'issue', for mine, and I hate to say it, it's Taylor and Nicholls who are the ones in danger once Conway is available again. In terms of age Taylor stands out at 37/38. I'd love to see him to get to 20 tons but I also don't want to see his average drop further before he retires. I think unless Rosco can pull one outta the bag over his next three innings in India the pressure will go right on for the home summer. Perhaps it's best if he was to retire from test cricket at some stage this summer (preferably on a high) and concentrate on making sure he's in good shape for the 2023 World Cup. Do we have any soft home tests this summer?
In my ideal world, Rosco retires this summer on the back of a virtuoso test series and Conway slots in at 4. Then we get a good 3-4 more years of stability from our batting order before mass retirements decimate us.
Are you implying Young is safe ? I think the jury is well and truly out on him personally given Latham and Conway are around although I am certainly a fan. In your ideal world does Young continue opening despite Conway going so well there ?
The retirements ( whenever they happen ) will fuck us because I genuinely CANNOT see a group of test players this good all at the same time in my lifetime again……we’ll end up like England with one class player ( Jamieson ) and a whole bunch of journeymen.

@mn5 Close to it, yeah. I think it'll come down to performances in the next three innings on this tour. If Rosco and Nicholls get a score they should be safe for the start of the home season. But if not then it'd be very hard to drop Young - barring three failures now - and Conway surely has to come back in which puts the pressure on our 4 & 5.
Ultimately, there'll be an injury or rotation anyway so it's unlikely to come down to a shoot out.

Fair enough, I don’t entirely agree or disagree all things considered but whoever does actually miss out ( and yeah I suspect Conway walks straight back in ) can be a bit aggrieved. Who opens of the two of them ? One to ponder……
Young played bloody well in a very tough environment and I know the selectors will take that into consideration. Without him and Latham up top our scoreboard would be very ugly.
As for how this test pans out it all depends on a) how much Southee and Jamieson can fire up and b) how we go against their amazing spin trio.
Our pace bowlers are better than theirs…..but their spinners are better than ours by a much bigger margin, they are truly exceptional players, we can’t compete with them in the slightest man for man so for the next test I think fuck trying to play them at their game and bring Wagner in for one of them.

Huge congrats to Kyle Jamieson for bringing up 50 wickets in only 9 tests, beating Bonds record pretty comfortably. It surprised me that Chris Martin was third, doing it in 13 tests…..and this obviously proves that Paddles improved out of sight later in his career as he took 14.
