Apparently the new Kookaburra will help out in the swing/seam department:

    https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/a-whole-new-ball-game-revamped-kookaburra-to-spice-up-the-ashes-20211206-p59f46.html

The lining, which has a ridge under the seam of the ball, should ensure that seam, known to many bowlers as the “rudder” for swing and movement off the pitch, won’t lose its fibre as easily - - closer in performance to the Dukes ball used in England.

It has taken the Kookaburra a world away from the type of projectile hurled down, without much success, by England’s bowlers in the highly attritional 2017-18 Ashes. Combined with a damp La Nina summer, the adjustments made to the Australian Test match ball may well contribute to a closer series than many expect.

Interesting. Nz have been using a new experimental kooka in Plunket Shield this season and last. Wonder if it is same one , assume it is.

Seen a resurrection of the kiwi dobblers dominating domestics.

Is England's pace attack suited to Australian conditions? Probably more suited than bringing a bunch of seamers...

I dunno, are geriatrics like Anderson and Broad more or less likely to break down in Aussie conditions ?

Well, they’re attempting to manage Anderson’s workload, so I’d guess it is a concern for the selectors.

I’m resigned to this particular England team not doing very well. 😟

Good call, aside from Root they’re shit and they’ll get pumped 5-0 if the weather holds up.

He must be stinking it out on the training pitch, then?

I expected them to play either Broad or Anderson during the series to manage their workloads. But to not select Broad when Anderson already ruled out is surprising to me.

Or some sort of 4D chess move with a day/night test up next and perhaps they are not expecting Anderson to be right for that one either?

On Anderson, Buttler said that he is fit and seemed to suggest that he will play both pink ball tests, with the second the replacement for Perth. An article today showed that Anderson's record in Brisbane and Perth is much worse than the other venues.

huge question marks over Harris, Head, Green, and Carey

Warner always comes good in Aus

But that England attack is a list of "who the fuck is that?" while the Aussie attack is awesome

At least England made the right call by batting.

The best part of this tour so far is that Perth doesn't get a test.

it's so good. And the arrogance of the WA Government just getting shoved back in their faces.

A bit of bidding war going on. Some say Melbourne because they “missed out” on so much and they have the best stadium. Some say Tassie because they haven’t got one. Some (and I reckon Cricket Oz back it) say Adelaide because they want a second day night test and Adelaide have done it well.
