1917 - great film, only time I picked up my phone was to see if there was a map of his route out there

Yep, I definitely wanna see that again. I love me a good war flick….and that one is so well made

@mn5 don’t get me wrong, there are places where you know they cut it…but there are loads of long sequences with no cuts and even just the idea of following one character as if one long shot, was so well done

….and lets be honest, the idea of following one person for an entire film has the potential to be really shit and boring. This never was though.

    Went to see Dune.
Figured I'd watch it on a big-screen, I typically don't bother, but I was optimistic about this particular project, and hungover, with poor decision-making skills.
Earlier - my lazy-brain had been trying to talk me out of it, with one of the arguments being... "It's half a story, the shit/boring-half at that, just wait until the entire thing's ready, and then watch it all in relatively-quick succession."
My rational-brain argued "nah, fuck it, we've got a plan. And by the time Part-Two becomes available, we won't be able to watch Part-One on a big-screen."
    My lazy-brain was correct.
I can see that the entire story, once available - is going to be a sweet watch. But watching 2.5 hours of "developing the scene"... without the 2.5 hours of epic awesomeness climax - was just... "meh" - as the kids said 5 years ago or so.

@kruse pretty common now for part ones like this to be released when the second one gets released.

You mean re-screened.. at the cinemas?
Yeah - I wondered about that, but...

As I was writing that up earlier, I was also thinking... by the time Part Two is released - cinema-sized screens will probably be relatively common in people's houses.

@Kruse going to have to disagree, finished it about 20min ago, still on the tram home, loved it and thought they made the set up really exciting

Wife humoured me, hadn’t ever heard of dune before apparently and said she really enjoyed, she said she was sad when aqua man died but he was a long way from water….

From memory the rebellion is a pretty small part of the book anyway, by that point he’s pretty over powered and effectively walks in

I do hope the second half comes quick though, it’s not a sequel so should be able to go straight into production

    @bovidae can’t upvote that

I really don’t understand why we don’t get more series released like LotR or some of the potter films, consecutive years really works with building the hype

A bit more now I’m home, visually spectacular, almost every shot, Special effects pretty much flawless, faithful to the book

Considering I read the book in anticipation, was underwhelmed and so was cautious, I’m looking forward to the next one

@kiwiwomble Filming doesn't start until July next year, so a lot of preparation of sets etc over the next 7-8 months.

Dune definitely needs to be seen on the big screen. Hans Zimmer's score is fantastic too.

Yeah, obviously I understand if they haven’t filmed it yet, was meaning I wish they filmed them at the same time like LotR and just released them in consecutive years

I think Dune might be a bit thought provoking and A Grade given the movies that @Kruse usually reviews.

I was soooo fucking tempted to watch Samurai Cop this evening, to wind the brain down... but decided on Venom: Carnage instead.

Nah... got a lot on my plate. Samurai Cop 1 & 2 have been sitting in the "To-Do" list for a while. And it's been really, really fucking hard to bring myself to get through that item.

@kiwiwomble Same experience. Went and saw it yestaerday on the big screen.

Everything about it impressed. Visually stunning, fantastic score that underlines the action, great casting. It is decades since I read the book ( a quick Google tells me there are 21 in total FFS) but it seemed pretty faithful to the original.

We were really tired and only went because we'd been given movie vouchers that expired yesterday. Partner's not really into SF so it had the potential to be a bad call but she came out amped and couldn't stop talking about how much she enjoyed it. Best movie I've seen in ages.

It's the film the fan bois think Star Wars actually is. Shows what can be done with an intelligent script.

I know there is a bit of love for the Martian on here, those that have read the book too, have you read his other books and are they any good?
