I made a mistake of getting a Cali Red for $19.99 from the Supermarket cos it had Snoop Dogg on the label. WAY too fucken sweet for me, I much prefer Syrahs and Pinot Noirs.
Unlike beer I’m absolutely hopeless at remembering names, I really must sort that to save myself potential issues in the future.
Our price range for a red is usually $20-$25. Was at a party some weeks back and drunk the bottle of red I brought, as I didn’t want to switch to beer I had some of the red that the hosts had provided, they proudly stated it was only $7.99 a bottle and holy shit it tasted awful, like Ribena that had gone off. Fucken grim.
haha I had one lik that a few weeks back. Combo of Ribena and Vinegar!

2015 Coleraine tonight with takeout cassoulet from here.
I didn't have a Cahors around, but the Coleraine stood up well with the cassoulet.
As a bottle of wine it really holds up well against premier cru Bordeaux. It was a really satisfying bottle to enjoy.
Need to go home to get some more!

As an ex 5* wine-snob, there's lot of fantastic wine out there (internationally at least) at great prices if you avoid big brands or are seriously into top-line Pinot Noir / top Hunter Valley Semillon or Shiraz for example.
My tastes have moved away from reds to ultra-dry whites but my daily quaffer is a supermarket no-brand Clare Valley Riesling. It's not Grosset Polish Hill or Springvale ... or a top Henty riesling quality like Crawford Hill ... but (this 2019 vintage wine) is very very good indeed. It's £8, sometimes discounted.
For a while here in the UK there were supermarket bottlings of top Hunter Valley Semillon at insane prices from Tyrells and Mt. Elizabeth, sadly the market has now overtaken that. Similarly I used to drink amazing Santinori Assrytiko before that got "spotted".
Took me time to trust my palate rather than the label and $$$ price tag.

We “discovered” that Assrytiko one a trip to Crete a few years back while it was cheap too. Nice drop.
Currently having some Valli Pinot in cleanskin format on a bargain deal. Sometimes you can go for 5star and price

So I am new to Barbera, only just discovered it. Fantastic drop, a light red and now i must consume more. If anyone knows any decent brands let me know. I can't believe I haven't found this Italian varietal earlier.
I can't get my wife to drink many reds, but she also enjoys this so that is a win

I'm drinking a Lavignone right now
I see the same shop has Massolino Barbera D’Alba but that's quite a bit of money (the premium there looks a bit high)
Fontana Fredda is good, although the Oz version has different packagine to what we get here.
I can also see that Dan Murphy's has Pio Cesare (never go wrong) and Tenuta baràc.
The Charles Smith Barbera is a different style but also really fun.
We drink a bit of the Fratelli Giacosa Barbera D'Alba, but I didn't see an Oz site for that one.

not sure where you are but south of Perth is a lovely little vineyard (great people) and some great, affordable wines including Barbera

Just for the hell of it I opened a bottle of Alluviale 2006 Cab Merlot Franc.
Touted as a cut price challenger to Coleraine, the grapes were sourced from the old Irongate vineyard. Dry but still with plenty of fruit, the wine still has legs. Which is fortunate because I have a few bottles salted away

Apparently the French grape season will be terrible due to the dry Summer conditions. This year's vintage will be one of the worst for a long time

You're one poster on here that I typically always enjoy. But by God, if I see another post like this any time soon, I'll hunt your ass down. Wine is the nectar of life, better than water, more sacrosanct than food.
