    That's a great book BTW.

The movie version of his book Contact was pretty good as well.

    Dune

    Well, it's fucking big.

Villeneuve can be a bit of a weird cat when it comes to directorial choices, but I reckon this time he's onto something with the style and pacing of this epic attempt at the umovieable book.

The audio works thematically with the scope of the vision in each scene, flowing or jarring as necessary. Some of the dialogue I lost a bit in the layers of sound, tho I'll put that down to my hearing as I age 😉.

Chalamet has some serious chops. I've seen him in a few things now and the guy has presence. Good support from the rest tho I found Ferguson's Jessica to be a bit high strung for a Bene Gesserit. A lot of her turmoil in the books is completely internal, which is hard to deliver in a visual medium.

6 Ornithopters out of 5 Heighliners.

Am going s 9ometime on holidays in the bext 29 dsys or so. Mrs Boo declining, Ms Boo Jr may tag along for Zendaya and/or Timotheeee whasshisnoodle. Hoping its worth my 13yo memory of the book.

Great light hearted fun caper film. Reynolds, Johnson and Gadot were well cast, Gal was smoking hot as ever. 4 eggs out of 5 double crosses

    Thoight it was crap.

1.5 cliched one liners out of 5 easily anticipated ,plot "twists".

Film wasn't perfect but I though they did a pretty good job capturing the main elements of the book - always a bit tricky to show the actual journey though.

I thought it was fun, not a great movie but a pretty fun watch, with added points for Gal Gadot.

Audie Murphy was another one - he was one of the most decorated American soldiers of WW2. He also had severe PTSD.

    Audie Murphy - Wikipedia

    Audie Murphy - Wikipedia

Murphy received the Medal of Honor for valor that he demonstrated at the age of 19 for single-handedly holding off a company of German soldiers for an hour at the Colmar Pocket in France in January 1945, then leading a successful counterattack while wounded and out of ammunition.

Dirk Bogarde was also an intelligence officer in the British Army in WW2.

There was a movie in the mid 50's called To Hell And Back - it was a biography of Audie Murphy, strangely enough starring Audie Murphy., and it is pretty good.

    Don't Look Up

Netflix's latest big star lineup revolving around 2 scientists and their attempts to bring a world-killing comet to the attention of the powers that be.

Most of the movie is a great satirical look at modern politics, society, and mainstream + social media. There are a lot of themes that apply to climate science of course, with the phrases "scientists all over the world agree that... " etc. The optics of the situation for a sitting president wth mid-terms elections are just around the corner, and so on.

DiCaprio, JLaw, Streep, Blanchett - pretty good lineup and they deliver. The guy who plays Teddy Oglethorpe is great as well. Ariana Grande's turn as a bimbo pop star was quite good as well. The tech billionaire I found hilarious. Ron Perlman's "hero" was LOL worthy.

A good watch and somewhat thought provoking about the things we already see wrong in society, whatever your political or social leanings. I think you can easily back it with this quote from Carl Sagan:

    b4f46e25-41ba-4f02-a48c-179a40d74fce-image.png

4 BASH modules out of 5 failed launches.

    I enjoyed it

    But it’s no Mars Attacks

    The Green Knight

I like Arthurian Legend. I like Dev Patel. So I put this on my Prime Video list ages ago and finally got around to watching it.

In about three parts, because it was all I could do to sit through this in 40 minute slots. Yeesh ... the pacing.

TBH it could have been shorter if it wasn't so far up its own arse in pretentious allegory. The camera work was good. The sound design and execution was good. But fuck a duck they could have shifted it along a bit.

3 green chapels out of 5 visions. And it would have been a 2.5 except for tits.

    Matrix resurrection

    Simply, I enjoyed it, fun

Maybe spoilers? Skip if youre worried

I DO get the idea of “it didn’t need to be made”, the story they tell is not one I think people were asking for and it very much stands out as a 4th film, the others for their faults do tell one story

I do like how they leaned in to the making a sequel idea, took the piss out of themselves and and moved on

My two biggest problems, agent smith, even if you accept a new actor…he calls him “Tom” rather than “mr Anderson”…a different actor…acting different…is basically a new character

And I don’t actually think any of the action/fight scenes were better…or even as good…as those from the original (s)

    Tunnelen

Norwegian disaster movie. Christmas traffic, tanker accident in a tunnel. Cue rescue of family.

Seemed alright but my copy had some appalling subtitles.

Boiling Point. Stephen Graham (by buggering fuck he can act) as a head chef at a trendy London restaurant. Shot in real time in a single take. Terrific performances and utterly compelling but I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Maybe the most stressful thing I've watched on screen. I know it’s fiction, but I have no idea how people live and work like this.

5 aggro chefs de cuisine out of 5 lazy dishwashers.

I’ll never watch it again though...

    Don’t look up

Well, I pointed out that Jennifer Lawrence looked surprisingly unrootable in this and the other half said the same about Leo……brilliant acting from both.

Kind of a crazy satire on a lot of what is going on the world today, top notch performances from EVERY single actor and pretty entertaining and thought provoking all round. I honestly can’t really give it a rating other than it’s worth seeing but I still haven’t decided if I really “liked” it or not.

Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea to be fair.

Well ok, “unrootable” might be a stretch but rough as fuck compared to her usual high standards.
