Caught a Radio NZ advert for Season 2 of Matangireia. It's a series of interviews with prominent (retired) Maori politicians.

So I subscribed and have listened to the first two of Series 1. Metiria Turei and Aunty Tariana Turia.

Really interesting, thought provoking and educational both of them. I never had much time for Turei's politics but man she comes across as passionate, principled and committed. They both do but it wasn't a surprise with Dame Tariana. The other characteristic they seem to share is happiness at being out of Parliament.

I've had my eyes opened a bit. Thoroughly recommend.

RNZ | Te Reo Irirangi o Aotearoa

    Matangireia | RNZ

    Matangireia | RNZ

Matangireia is a series of conversations examining the political legacies of Māori politicians.

Tom Breihen, who does the Number Ones column for Stereogum, talks with Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Operators) and friends about his run in with BTS fans on the internet, and other shit about modern pop music.

85 - Boys That Stereogum (ft. Tom Breihan) by Fortune Kit

Fortune Kit is one of my favourite podcasts, as it uncovers weird, original, and often off-putting stuff in music, in an era where pop and rock are generic garbage or just recycled instant nostalgia. They also do a lot of ironic smart-assed shit too, like everyone else.

The Lazarus Heist (done by BBC World Service)

Starts off talking about North Korea and the Sony cyber attack following the movie, The Interview.

It does delve into a bit of NK history too, I'm 4 eps in and is pretty good.

Hmm, how did I miss this post earlier? I don't know if I want to hear what Breihan sounds like as I prefer to read the no,1's column in the pompous music snob voice I've created for him in mind. I don't want that ruined with his actual voice.

    Listening to 'Operator'

Which delves into the early days of the phone sex industry, and the technology developed at the time, that they reckon if any industry other than the sex industry would have been huge news.

Focuses mainly on one company that was the largest provider at the time.

Fascinating listen so far, ep 4 where I am upto is explicit where they recreate some actual calls and stories.

Onto another one, The Dropout: Elizabeth Holmes on trial

I vaguely recall the name, but dont recall much otherwise.

Interesting story so far (3 eps in)

The Dropout Podcast - ABC Audio

The Dropout Podcast - ABC Audio

Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world's youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did the woman once heralded as "the next Steve Jobs"...

The latest episode of rugby direct is an absolute cracker with a brilliant guest...

    ZB

Rugby Direct - Summer Edition: Raeburn Shield

Rugby Direct - Summer Edition: Raeburn Shield

Elliott catches up with the man behind the Raeburn and Utrecht Shields - mythical rugby trophies that don't exist but perhaps should.

Rugby Direct - Summer Edition 2

I joined Elliot to talk Raeburn and Utrecht Shield which was cool.

14 minutes I suggest worthy of your ears 😀(and you can place my dulcet tones for using when reading my posts 😁)

"The Coming Storm" from BBC Sounds.

About the motivation behind the Jan 6 "insurrection", and how it was spawned by the QAnon conspiracy, what QAnon was, how that arose from the Vince Foster suicide and the Clintons, through 4Chan, 8Chan and now (Am up to Ep 5) into the Russia collusion conspiracy.

    Am enjoying.

This was excellent, I couldn’t really stop listening to it until finished. About the Trojan Horse letter in Birmingham UK that kicked off a huge series of events/change in schools, socially and government policy. A lot going on including the interaction between the two
Journalists, one veteran and one beginner.

I hadn’t listened to S-Town so have since listened to that which is also very good but I think the Trojan Horse one is better.

This was awesome. I liked how whenever they brought in a new character and started discussing or interviewing them it really wasn't apparent which way it was going to go.

I'm about to do a deep dive on the documentation available (reports etc).

I had no prior knowledge of this story either, which seems strange in hindsight.

    'Things Fell Apart' BBC Sounds

Subtitled 'Strange Tales From the Culture War'

Generally a reasonably balanced discussion on how everybody hates each other on Twitter.

Finished listening a week or so back. And been wondering which thread I post this in.

But here will do for now.

Without wishing to stereotype I had my suspicions about the presenter's prejudices at the start (that they fell waaay left of mine), but for the most part he was fair and balanced.

Apart from the episode on race relations.

His descriptions of the Covington kids really didn't describe how poorly they were portrayed, and he gave waay too much credibility to Robin DiAngelo.

Did give me some background into Trans dogma I was previously unaware of, being that the Trans movement grew out of 'third wave feminism' and a theory around gender roles being a social construct (we've all heard this ... err... theory) based on musings by philosopher Simone de Beauvoir.

Am off to Google this rabbit hole further.

But certainly worth a listen I thought.

So I went to download the Clarke Report and the Kershaw Report and they wouldn't download. I thought that the reports had been removed due the podcast. Turns out it was just my browser had shit itself and wasn't downloading anything.

Trojan Horse affair was a great listen although I'm still a bit wary about the main protagonist (Hamza) and the fact that they didn't really dig enough quite enough to make it more than a good theory. I loved it, but it was a bit of a let-down with the whole Australia trip to finish.

Just finished The Coming Storm (BBC) which was a fascinating look at QAnon (I think it may have been mentioned above but was recommended by a non-polish friend).

I'm looking for something new - longform 8 or so episodes, so recommendations are appreciated. I downloaded Things Fell Apart so will blame booboo if that sucks.
