i started writing a longer reply, what i agreed with and what i didn't, realised it boiled down to he makes very valid points, he just presents it all like "old man yells at clouds" which almost undermines his points for me, almost
i do agree though, i dont know why they dont change up more aspects, people arent completely stupid, most realise there are only so many stories to tell so you change up the small details and it can feel different, the force awakens for example, it was supposed to be fan service, they wanted to give people what they missed from the originals after the prequels were so different...but yes, dont make rye and orphan on a desert planet, dont have a planet destroying weapon, just a fleet on first order ships doing some damage is enough and it would already feel different
havent mentioned the actual bad acting or huge character personality changes etc as i think that goes without saying
I think i have said this before in regards to the idea of a female bond for example, if they can come up with a good enough story then the protagonist shouldn't need to be called bond, just change up the names and make an "original" character...if you need them to be called bond to get bums in seats for a female spy movie.....then it might not be a very good story
im torn with jurassic world though...it was very deliberate in the fact the new park was built on the bones of the old one to talk about how people just make the same mistakes, they obviously want to make move off the nostalgia....but they came up with a reason for it at least

@kiwiwomble Your comment re Bond, I liken it to Point Break, they had a classic movie, and instead of re-hashing it under another name (see Fast and Furious with the same plot) they gave the same name...automatically I hated it and i hadnt even seen it.
But I am easy to please when it comes to Movies/TV, I like to watch what I watch, I enjoy it, or I don't, often I dont need character depth or plot twists or background, just a movie to enjoy, or I wont enjoy it.

So, I've been sick this week, basically all the symptoms of Covid, have just shuffled from bed to couch and vice versa, but not Covid. So anyway, I watched some movies this week, some older and some new:
14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible: A Himalayan dude (resident in the UK) attempts to scale all 14 over 8000m peaks in the world in 7 months. Another good climbing doco.
Copshop: Action about a cop stuck in a police station with a prisoner assassins want to kill. Ok, switch the brain off action. Stars Gerard Butler and I didn't dislike it and him in it which is a recommendation. Also stars Frank Grillo.
Love and Monsters: Netflix movie where the world is overrun by monsters so most people live underground. A guy decides to travel to find his ex girlfriend despite the fact he’s hopeless. Was a good switch off the brain fun watch.
Enemy: Early Denis Villeneuve film. Firstly, there's a bunch of dark scenes that if they're too dark on your TV you'll miss stuff. Secondly, it's about 70% good and 30% arty bollocks (which is made worse if you miss the dark scenes). Stars Jake Gyllenhal and two attractive blonde chicks (one is the French one from Inglorious Bastereds).
Riders of Justice: As mentioned above in the thread. I loved this film, it constantly changes from drama to comedy to action to black comedy etc (but not in that order).
Upgrade: Good Blumhouse film made in Melbourne about a paralysed guy who gets a computer chip inserted that gives him back control of his body (kinda) and he goes on a revenge spree.

Was good, wasn’t expecting it to be quite so much of a sequel to Spectre
I thought they handled the idea of someone else being 007 well, because they leaned in an made it part of the story, and she played the brash arrogant spy well

Once again though….I feel the scene from this one will blend into all his other films with the exception of casino Royal in general and the scene at his house from skyfall, his have all been very samey, and I get the idea of a certain style…but think they’ve gone too far

I hope they don't get rid of all three as Naomie Harris' Moneypenny is great and one of the best characters of the Craig era. Ben Wilshaw's Q is starting to grate though.
They need to kill off the maudlin endings as well. The last scene was bloody cringeworthy.

Take your point but I just thought her superfluous and she stood out like a sore thumb.

It would have been good if she had, but I didn't think she did. There's one scene (i can't describe it at it's a spoiler) which made me really, really cringe. The writing was really bad.

@victor-meldrew always fascinating how people can see the same thing so differently, as I say I got very similar vibes to when we first met craig, reasonably new agent, 00 status was important to them, quite happy to walk head first into any situation
Will concede it was a bit cringy when she gave him back the 007…they’d spent the whole dim showing he didn’t care anymore
I had more trouble with remi maleks bad guy….not really sure why he wanted to kill half the planet, started well with the throw back to the story she told in spectre…but then I kind of lost his motivation
Also, wasn’t the big bad guys base from skyfall on an abandoned island of the coast of Japan?
