I don't get this, or tennis followers in general. Does anyone know Medvedev or do they just not like a player who beats players they like, who they also don't know.
I wouldn't endear myself to a crowd that booed me either.
I'm rating him based on his tanty to the ump in the semi.

I liked the comment about the wife and the broken tv. I suspect he has a dark sense of humour that isn't a quick to warm up to style.

Did you see his post match speech? Extremely gracious towards Nadal, respectful to the media & came across good.
Dunno who this person is (and why their comments are on tennis are relevant), but I'm 100% with Medvedev here. You can't spend 5 hours ignoring winners, cheering errors & booing Hawkeye awarding you points then expect your target to have any interest in anything you say or do anymore.

"The kid is going to play for himself."
I wasn't a fan of the crowd behaviour but I think this was a bit OTT.
As if he wasn't playing for himself, possibly Russia, and probably the $$.
I don't really think he was playing for Australians before. -

I don't really think he was playing for Australians before.I think there was a bit of lost in translation there with the word he used.
Make no mistake though, it was a thinly veiled critique of the crowd.

I agree with this. But he can choose to butt heads with the crowd, or he can try to win them over. I think the crowds at this year's open have been particularly boorish. Maybe it's recently bias

Fonsceca has the fastest forehand recorded at the AO this year in his first ever grand slam match.
His game is very mature for an 18 year old - he's going to fun to monitor.

I watched the game, he destroyed Rublev. This kid could go deep into the tournament, and has a bright future

Another youngster makes a statement - 19 year old yank Tien knocks out Medvedev in a match that went from 10pm - 3am.
Another theme I'm enjoying in this year's AO is opponents taunting the home crowd after knocking out the local player. The crowds have been especially boorish this year so I don't blame the players. Makes for good theatre.

Amen. Recently I've come to the conclusion we need more villains in sport. Or people willing to act the villain for the purposes of entertainment.
Virat Kohli is a great example. Of course he doesn't need to be shoulder barging a debutant opening bat, but did it make the game heaps more fun? Unquestionably. Nick Kyrgios is the same.
So when I see a tennis player give it back to the crowd I love it. Don't be middle here, have a fucken crack.
