@nepia It was just beer.
It was 3 of us who'd for some reason appeared at Uni halls a day earlier than others, agreed to call a taxi - asked him to take us to a pub.
We got taken to some dodgy pub that might have been a student hang-out about 20 years earlier... sure as hell wasn't any longer. But did $4 jugs, or some shit. And served 3 obviously under-age kids. Maybe 20c pool tables... which was fucking rare even back then.
Don't remember any food.
Dissipated into 3 very different groups of friends after that 1 night out. -
Birds Eye Chicken Pie with mashed potatoes. Was an argument about also having some frozen peas. My flat mate at the time was as mean as all fuck and felt we didn't need the addition of peas because the picture on the pie box had a pea in it.

Can you old farts remember what your first meal as an independent adult was? I bet you it was beer and KFC/fish and chips or spaghetti bolognese/lasagne on the flatmate cooking roster.
So I think you mean first meal when moved out of home into a flatting situation, right? As halls of residence don't count.
Mine was a 1 dollar pie from the dairy on the corner of Clyde & Galloway Street in Hamilton. The first meal I think we proper cooked together was a BBQ of some cheap crappy meat (provable crumbed), sausages & some salads / cheese rolls. Remember it well, the start of the evening at least.

with some fresh white bread to carb-load for the win
Poach some eggs in the msg soup. Delicious
I've never heard of that, sounds outrageously good! We tried to poach eggs in our deep fryer at Uni - they weren't very delicious at all.

I'm not sure you know what these words mean.

Boil the water. Add the seasoning. Crack the eggs in. After a couple of minutes put the noodles in. Add a few frozen fish balls for extra credit

Did someone say Noodles?
Cooked some mean mi goreng the other day. Great stuff but certainly a million miles away from a meal.
Trying to convert my kids from maggi 2 min noodles to mi goreng. Slow going so far but one of them is sold. The lad still reckons maggi is better....cant understand him

Those heat and eat pork n apple snitzels with a ready mix pasta snack and frozen mixed vege. Better living everyone. With a couple of beer to wash it down of course.

Well they start dry but you “cook” them in boiling water. Can even boil the jug then chuck em in with the lid off for a bit

I like indomie which is basically the same. Crack raw egg in at end and stir to self sauce it

Back to "Parenting" for a minute - went camping with the boy on the weekend. He's got 70 days left of being a minor at this point, but it is always a risk as he's lazy as fuck and likes to quit on anything except a computer game... he only rage-quits those.
Anyway, he was fairly useful at setting up for the night but still has strength issues with getting his swag done. He's still got low muscle tone and finds lifting things hard, which I was hoping his night shifts at Coles had sorted out by now. Oh well.
The moment of achievement was the hike we undertook - from the campsite to a nearby waterfall, it was probably not unexpected it would involve a significant elevation change, given the campsite was on top of a mountain.
Precision not 100% as the Garmin watch was doing its best against a cliff face, but it paints the picture.
Anyway, despite needing a bunch of rest stops on the way back (half of which I was grateful for), he did it, didn't whinge too much, and thoroughly enjoyed his dinner of scrambled eggs and bacon. That was all despite doing most of the driving that day as well, racking up some hours on his L plates.
Maybe he's finally starting to get it.
