    Well they start dry but you “cook” them in boiling water. Can even boil the jug then chuck em in with the lid off for a bit

    I like indomie which is basically the same. Crack raw egg in at end and stir to self sauce it

    Back to "Parenting" for a minute - went camping with the boy on the weekend. He's got 70 days left of being a minor at this point, but it is always a risk as he's lazy as fuck and likes to quit on anything except a computer game... he only rage-quits those.

    Anyway, he was fairly useful at setting up for the night but still has strength issues with getting his swag done. He's still got low muscle tone and finds lifting things hard, which I was hoping his night shifts at Coles had sorted out by now. Oh well.

    The moment of achievement was the hike we undertook - from the campsite to a nearby waterfall, it was probably not unexpected it would involve a significant elevation change, given the campsite was on top of a mountain.

    Precision not 100% as the Garmin watch was doing its best against a cliff face, but it paints the picture.

    Anyway, despite needing a bunch of rest stops on the way back (half of which I was grateful for), he did it, didn't whinge too much, and thoroughly enjoyed his dinner of scrambled eggs and bacon. That was all despite doing most of the driving that day as well, racking up some hours on his L plates.

    Maybe he's finally starting to get it.

    I have a long-standing plan to get a nice classy personal salt-shaker, to fill with MSG and carry around with me. My goddamn laziness and forgetfulness keeps thwarting me.

    Yeah MSG is king. I use to work at a chinese takeways as a teenager. MSG makes everything taste good.

    How the fuck has no one mentioned sizzlers ? Getting third degree burns from hot cheese when you took a bite was a rite of passage for anyone our age.

    It's totally worth the follow up thirst & headache.

    WE don't cook with it in our house though. Generally use chicken powder for Chinese dishes. Which is much much better, apparently.

    Mainly because it contains MSG.

    @booboo At university I used to roughly smash potatoes with skins on, add cheddar and curry powder and mix in a number of chopped sizzlers. Food of the Gods.

    Years ago I found cocktail franks somewhere, same size as a cheerio but smokey. They were next level. Now I can get mini cheese sausages from the Swiss deli, they are excellent

    First couple of weeks of flatting at uni is a really great way of identifying whose mum did everything for them at home.

    I think my flatmates first meal for us was like, rice, potatoes, tinned spaghetti and sizzlers. gross.

    @mariner4life I had a flattie once who pinned the top sheet to his duvet to help him make his bed. I swear he only had one set of sheets all year and I don't recall them being washed. First meal was not only horrible (spaghetti boll using tomato sauce not tomato paste) it was also meagre. A cardinal sin

    @mariner4life did they actually cook them? We knew of a flat where they were starting from scratch in terms of cooking knowledge. That flat produced a mince dish that was legendary in its awfulness. I think someone was sick while eating it, let alone what happened to the poor bastards afterwards.

    Reminds me of my first meal; mince with liberal quantities of bbq sauce. Rice added for colour.
