College golf is pretty big over there (as with most stuff I guess) so like most stuff with alot of access to large population base...but is littered with talented kids who can't make it.
I played golf here with a guy who got a scholarship to UCLA, highlight of his career was qualifying for the US Open at Bethpage in 2009, but just googled him, and looks like he is now coaching.
They came 2nd to the John Daly and John Daly Jnr, the latter another kid with some talent.
Is it John Daly Jnr or John Daly II (I only ask as I don't know if there is a difference)

The fact he is doing this in front of those galleries and cameras is impressive, I saw something yesterday citing he is ranked 135th amatuer for 11-13 yrs in the US.
I reckon his swing is more Rory than Tiger, but boy does he have Tigers swagger!
They reeled off six birds in a row this morning after hitting the lead earlier with a bird-bird-eagle start.
If he wants it, he'll go pro, and make a ton off sponsorship the moment he does.

@booboo well they add that in the tournaments they play in, even though I think you would be correct in there being not many (zero)
John Daly II is ranked 621st best amateur in the World, he's 18 yrs currently, and wants to go pro.

Watched a lot of the tournament as the viewing time was pretty good for NZ but geez he didnt start to well last night and his 5 shot lead got down to two pretty quickly, partly due to missing a tap in par putt on the 4th. Came straight back with a birdie on the next - something he had also done for the previous 6 bogeys.
Ended up winning emphatically with a birdie on 18 for a 5 shot victory margin

@taniwharugby His Dad said Ryan's issue has always been he doesn't practice enough and relies too much on talent.
Don't know how true that is but says everything about the ex AB #10!

Pretty crazy final round to follow. Smith looked awesome early on but hit some truly awful shots off the tee on the back nine . His recovery and putting was amazing though. Just kept rolling in putt after putt.
Then on the island green par 3 17th he just fired one on the short side of the flag. Gutsy shot. Rolled it in for birdie. Then 18.....in to the water with his second before putting chip right on the money. Talk about clutch.

Watched live and was one of the most thrilling final rounds with so many in contention.
To be fair, he didn't go for that shot on 17, he said he accidently pushed it

And Tiger looks a likely starter but think he said he will only confirm on the day. Been watching some of the practice coverage over the last couple of days and the crowds are all over him.

Wow! How huge is the Tiger effect on golf!!! I just love it. Biggest story of the Par 3 contest was Tiger practising on main course.
PLayers are pumped he's back and know that they need to concentrate on their own game despite the Tiger Tide around them.
