Pieces of Her on Netflix
Very enjoyable 5 episodes in
-
Vikings Valhalla. First off, not much tit in this though a couple of soft sex scenes that are not sexy. Set 100 years after Ragnar with some historical characters. Much butchery but more suggested than actual. All the things that in the end made Vikings tiresome are here from the beginning. I persevered but kind of wished I hadn’t. Not a complete waste of time but a little unsatisfactory.

Didn't Gary Oldman do Smiley recently too? Typecasting himself a bit in his later years.
Yeah, he was really good in a cast which was equally impressive - Cumberbatch, Colin Firth etc Not a patch on Alec Guinness's Smiley though - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is arguably the best TV series I've ever seen.
Oldman is a genius - looking forward to Slow Horses
-
Watching The Gilded Age - by Julian Fellowes. Bit like Downton Abbey but in mid-late 19c New York.
Perfect fluffy viewing with the missus, but not a must-watch.

Have you seen the trailer? Looks pretty faithful to the book. Oldman most probably excellent but his Lamb is not the Lamb I had in my head (voice mainly).
I'm sure I will adjust and it will become the other way around. -

I picture him as much larger; physically and metaphorically and with an air of menace that doesn't come across in that trailer.
Oldman comes across as a curmudgeon whereas in the books - everyone fears Lamb.
Nevertheless looking forward to it immensely. -

Nevertheless looking forward to it immensely. That describes it well. An air of menace.
I always imagined a more authoritative voice. Oldman's take is a bit whiny. -

1883
Amazing writing and execution. This is streets ahead of Yellowstone which was great overall, but a bit cardboard- cutout at points.
It's visceral, and unapologetic with it. The casting is superb and can't wait for the next installment, 1932.
Caught the first episode last nite after your recommendation. Outstanding.

So the latest must-see show around here seems to be 1883.
I have subscriptions to Stan, Foxtel, Netflix, Amazon, Apple and Disney. Plus SBS, ABC and all the other freebies.
And it's on fucking Paramount.
What the fuck is Paramount? Para-fucking-who???
Never fucking heard of it.
But hey, it's "just" another $8.99 per month, that's nothing!
Well, it's nothing unless you pay it 27 fucking times every month.

@voodoo this, a thousand times, this! Well said.
Why the fuck is it that Yellowstone is on Stan but the prequal, "1883", is on bloody Parramount+.
So bloody annoying. And Parramount+ only has a 7 day free trial. Like WTF? That's not a trial, that's a start watching something then have to pay because you couldn't watch the whole bloody series in 7 days!

@roninwc Paramount pulled their launch in NZ. Apparently Sky NZ purchased all Paramount's content but have chosen not to show it.

Sky seem to get into real tangles. In theory Neon should be a good platform as Sky have HBO, Paramount and often have the good 'non Amazon' stuff from Amazon. When things filter through they are often very good but Sky seem to hold some stuff in reserve for the traditional subscribers.

Severance (Apple TV)
Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.
3 episodes into this 9 episode series, and really enjoying it. Sort of a cross between Terry Gilliam's Brazil and something out of a Kafka novel. Lots of the 1960's Prisoner tv show vibes. Storytelling is slow, but well paced, progressively world building in more detail each episode.
Despite Adam Scott playing the main character, this is not a comedy - its a mystery/thriller. John Turturro and Christopher Walken are great.

Yeah, many shows are available on Neon or Sky Go before they appear on SoHo. The latter channel only broadcasts shows weekly so if you want to binge you are out of luck. And Neon remains only 2 ch.
