The Doobie Brothers kind of fits the middle aged boganess of this thread doesn't it?

    FIFY.

I wonder if @NZbloke works for one of those 'Classic Hits' radio stations that sell CDs to retirement villages?

I will concede that the Doobies made quite good driving music in their day. Plenty a Holden wagon would have had a Doobies cassette blaring on a summer roadie.

Each individual posts the songs they enjoy, which is how it should be... so fucking pointless me posting songs that I don't really like.

Pink Floyd lightships are amazing. Jeff Lynne's ELO give them a run for their money though.

Slightly off topic, but Waters did a Wall tour a few years ago & I caught the film of it. I'd previously seen the version of Comfortably Numb on it in where Gilmour makes a surprise appearance. Made for an interesting comparison. Conclusion being

Comfortably Numb with Gilmour, for me, is one of the best songs ever.
Comfortably Numb, without Gilmour, is very very average. The solo just didn't sound right & Gilmour's relaxed vocals fit the mood of the song perfectly.

@majorrage I went to Waters Wall tour and you are spot on. Enjoyable, polished, well put together - but definitely missing something.

Overall it was as much an embittered old man's polemic as a rock concert.

As a guitarist NO ONE can do less is more like Gilmour can. One of the greats.

@dogmeat Waters to me is too much of a political dickhead rockstar. “Yeah fight oppression, fight for freedom, fight facism etc”….until it’s time to go home to one of my multi million dollar mansions all over the world.

The main guitarist when Waters toured NZ for The Wall Live was Dave Kilminster. The funny thing is that a few musicians regularly appear in both Gilmour and Waters' touring bands (e.g., Jon Carin).

The light-show for Gilmour's "Live at Pompeii" is stunning.

Yeah, Both PF and ELO have great lighting effects, really top bands.

Don't think I've ever heard them referred to as a Wellington band before. Gilpin was from Palmy North and had been a caberet singer touring pubs and clubs. The formation of what is known as Mi-sex was Gilpin plus members of other bands from Auckland, Hamilton and Welly, very much a hodgepodge of gigging musos. I'm fairly sure that they based themselves in Welly for a short while simply because they got a contract with EMI who had their recordings studios in Lower Hutt.

Just to show that you can never underestimate the taste of the public Computer Games was by far their biggest hit and most annoying song (followed closely on both fronts by People).
I saw them at their peak playing the Logan Concrete Centre and Steve Gilpin (RIP) was one hell of a showman. Brilliant throwing around the mic stand. Their lighting show for those days was very impressive as well.

I'd say this is would be the song of theirs that has stood the test of time.

Blue Day is a terrific song.

Computer Games is dated and irritating.
