BBBR is only 30, but is 7 years older than the next oldest Chiefs lock.

@nepia we have snapped up the classy Cam Roigard from under the noises of the Chiefs. 😄 Shame he's injured this year because he was a gold nugget for the Canes in 2021.

Why would the Canes need Roigard when they have Fakatava in the region?

        Cos they’re idiots!

That's harsh canes, they probably thought it was better Fakatava played with Nugget Smith who was from their region too!!🙄

A good story about the long wait McWhannell has had to make his Chiefs debut. Hopefully the injuries are behind him.

            @Bovidae

But then came a cruel twist of fate as he was eagerly awaiting a debut over the first half of the 2019 campaign.
“I guess just because of my age they didn’t want to throw me out there too early, which was frustrating at the time,” McWhannell said, “because they also weren’t letting me play club rugby, because I was like an injury away, they said.”
That injury then happened on the night of May 4, when Michael Allardice broke his ankle against the Highlanders in Dunedin. But, in a crushing coincidence, McWhannell, having eventually been released to play a few games for Hautapu, had suffered the exact same injury earlier that day.

That's some unreal bad luck holy shit. Also didn't know he was on a 5 year contract.

That was news to me too. Brodie won't be around for too much longer so we've got 4 young locks to continue to develop.

I really like McWhannell - seems to play bigger than his listed weight.

Yes, he was probably the best lock of Round 1 : punches above his weight, big workrate, good skills.

Not having Retallick would have been a bigger problem in previous seasons. At least now, there is some depth at lock.

Hopefully we are over the disruptions and can put out a strong team. Canes will be smarting and fired up.

Haven't been to the caketin in ages, think I might see if I can squeeze this in.

PGS back would be a big help, as he adds balance to the loose forward trio being used at the moment. From an article last week Jacobson might be available too.

@bovidae a matchup with Ardie would be fairly intriguing with both of them playing the house down so far this year. Let's hope they are both fit to play.

@crucial Pity the game is not played at Porirua Park where the good folks at Norths always ensure visitors are looked after very well a the aftermatch function. Players may not have aftermatch functions for Super games but hat does not stop us supporters keeing up traditions.

Fresh off his stunning return to the No 10 jersey, Josh Ioane is in doubt for the Chiefs’ Super Rugby Pacific revenge match against the Blues in Hamilton on Saturday night.

While assistant coach David Hill admitted they initially thought it was a head knock for the pivot, he confirmed it wasn’t, but said Ioane was no certainty to back up this weekend.

“It was a little bit of a rib issue, which is not ideal,” Hill said on Tuesday. “But he’s pulled up alright today, so fingers crossed it’s not too bad. But you never know until all the scans are done and everything’s cleared up, so we’ll find out later on today.”

The Chiefs’ other injury concern out of Sunday was a concussion to lock Laghlan McWhannell, who will continue to be monitored, while Hill said prop Sione Mafileo and lock/No 6 Tupou Vaa’i were both in line for selection again, having initially been named to face the Hurricanes before pulling up with niggles at the end of a physical Friday training.

                                          Nothing on other players.
