@machpants Blackadder was good, but not as good as I remembered it being.

As I said in another post, Fawlty towers falls in same category, not as good as I remembered it.

@Crucial inhad watched most of them previously but watched all again recently

It's best not to revisit old shows that you have good memories off unless you are in a nostalgic mood. Lots of movies etc from the 80s that were fun at the time are very disappointing if you get to see them again.

@crucial fair point, are a few movies I refuse to re-watch (Highlander being one) based on the fact I know they wont have aged well at all.

Are plenty however that I have re-watched (movies and series) that I still enjoyed.

    Depends on the quality.

Loads of classics from the 80s are absolutely timeless and can be enjoyed again and again.

But some movies I liked as a kid are just awful to watch nowadays.

I've currently got the 7 day trail with Paramount+ to watch 1883, season 4 of Discovery and Halo.

I've still not watched anything on my Paramount+ subscription. I really need to find something to watch to justify my $5.95 I paid for the year. πŸ˜‰

One of my mates saw that there was a weird anomaly on one of those tips sites, Ozbargain maybe, it seemed like it was for South America but they accidentally opened it to Oz. I jumped on it straight away and then it disappeared pretty soon after.

Thought they might have reneged on it but maybe they hope people will stay on after the year ends.

I haven't watched anything on it but two of mates who I share streaming services with have been using it.

@tim I'm quite interested in the Ipcress File as I was a great fan of the Deighton books. Whilst I liked the Harry Palmer adaptations made in the 60's they were still a little unsatisfying having read the books and I think that they're better suited to a mini series. As an aside did you watch the TV adaptation of Game, Set and Match back in the 80's with Bilbo Baggins?

Watched the first two episodes - quite good so far.

    @tim

Forgotten about this until your update and have just watched the first episode. Good period detail, pacing spot on and a well acted storyline. Was wondering about Joe Cole in the lead but he’s channelled Michael Caine very well.

Jean is easy on the eye isn’t she?

@crucial I've watched Ep 1 and while I agree with everything you say I'm still a little underwhelmed.

It's like every performance 80% nails it but the sum of the individual parts is less than 80%

I think you're probably right about the plot - although I didn't notice that with the books. Just seems like you don't get enough of the depth of the characters especially the interaction between the Slow Horses themselves. We know nothing of Roddy for example. Given how little plot development there was though - if you delved more into the characters it would be very slow indeed.

I'm trusting its a slow burner and will develop. I'm also going to recommend it to someone who hasn't read the novels for their take.

@catogrande I saw something last week saying the odds of Cole being the new Bond had shortened.

That sounds like another series to add to my list!

Trigger Point - decent enough series about the explosives unit in the Met police, not a must watch, but I liked it.

Dark comedy on BBC from Stephen Merchant

    Excellent

A bit behind, but have just finished this on Amazon, Merchant delivers his usual creepy quirky type of character. Easy watching and quite funny, I thought Christopher Walken was good value as well. Worth viewing

I watched it about 5 years ago, and enjoyed it quite a lot.

Where did you watch that, Tim? Len Deighton was appalled by the Granada TV adaptation and blocked it being re-shown on TV. Bastard.

I've watched a poor quality version on Youtube and would love to see a decent quality version.

One of my favourite series ever. It helped I was working in Basle & Berlin at the time.
