I'd say that's the end of the band TBH.

Grohl took a couple of years off from Nirvana before starting the Foos didn't he? It will be tough to replace him because he was such an integral part of the band and a close friend. But Grohl is too young to stop just yet

Maybe Grohl and some other guys keep going, but not as Foo Fighters. Maybe not even together...

Dave had numerous side projects as well. It's not like he'll stay idle.

Nirvana was 3 years of his life and he was a kid.

The Foos are like 28 years, and Hawkins has been in the band for like 25 of those.

He's now mates with everyone, and does a heap of side projects. It would be really hard to continue i reckon.

That said, they love to entertain, so maybe they find a way. But my money would be on no more.

@mariner4life I can't see Grohl going back to the drums, or being able to look back at the drums and see anyone other than Taylor playing. He'll keep making music but I would be surprised if the Foos keep going.

Other bands like Yes and ZZ Top have continued when founding members (i.e., Chris Squire and Dusty Hill) have died. If Grohl wants to continue as the FFs he will eventually find a suitable replacement.

Those guys were only bass players.

No one gives a fuck about bass players, I know this better than most.

@mn5 I knew someone would say that, likely you. 🙂 Squire was Yes, like Grohl is the FF.

Squire was an awesome player, no doubt about it.

Hill was very good in the 70s before the synthesiser stuff made his role less prominent. Great singer too.

I agree that they’ll draw a line under the Foos but after a period of time a new group will be born out of some of the band. They’ll call it Taylor Made or Hawkins to keep the memory of their mate alive.

Tom Smith. Sad news. A genuine world class player.

Bugger, really sad. Bloody decent player too, any Scot who plays tests for the Lions generally is.

Definitely lived up to the old cliche of playing above his weight !

His teammate Doddie Weir was looking really unwell recently too ( Moto neurons disease )

It is horrible how the body packs up sometimes.

Shit - I never knew Jack Higgins was a pseudonym. As a kid, I'd scour the library shelves every visit on the off-chance of a new Jack Higgins, or a new Alastair MacLean.
And, as it so happens, just in the last month - decided to go on a bit of a nostalgia trip, and downloaded the Jack Higgins bibliography in epub format.
Also - recently re-watched The Eagle Has Landed recently... it stands up remarkably well. Watching it really highlighted how much modern movies spell every little thing out, whereas some of those older movies assumed the audience had some intelligence.

Anyway, I'm sure Harry/Jack is now wearing a long duffel coat, in the dark spot directly under a street lamp on a cold rainy night in heaven, and getting ready to pick a fight with some sort of bully (or group of bullies), before picking up some too-young hottie and charming her with a classic Irish-rogue accent.

I'm going to have to go all retro in my choice of books after that post.
