Good to see Barrett get another crack at 12. Say what you like about Holland but he's the first coach to select Barrett in what I believe is his best position since he debuted in the NPC for Canterbury. I've been suggesting this for years.

It is noted that it has taken him a season and a half to do so.

Holland started Jordie at 12 in 2019 for a game too. Obviously Laumape was around but I think they could have given Jordie more opportunities at 12 over the years.

@tim Interesting question. What is the reasoning?
@old-samurai-jack Getting low enough for head on tackles. Could put at risk of penalty/card for a high shot.

Interesting point with the lower tackle height requirements.
He's the height of a lock and they dont have issues close in. In the open it hasnt been an issue either but yeah, at 12 there are sometimes those middle ground issues of wanting to wrap the ball up but having less time to adjust.
Doesn't look like a problem for him. -

Dunno perhaps ask Josh Ioane how his rubs are, and how high they are.
But naa mate tackling at 12 is same as tackling at 15 in being able to lower height. -

I wouldn't give Holland credit in this regard. He has put Jordie there as about 7th or 8th attempt from his squad. FFS he even played Julian Savea there before him.

Reckon it's much more about J.Barrett wanting to play at 12, rather than Holland wanting him to play there.

He is not in the Poneke lineup for today so might still be carrying an injury. If I see him watching his guys at Hataitai Park I will see what I can find out for you. -

Thats a shame I was looking forward to seeing Blackadder at 7. It's probably his best position at Test level
