Fuck the warriors suck. They need to sack the coach, the board, and remove most of their squad

Really weird, I could have sworn this was their year

    Fuck up and fuck off

Absolutely nobody has said that for years

The club is a dumpster fire not helped by being based away for 2 years.
NZ rugby league is cooked. The talent pathways are broken. The elite level side is anything but. The development is non-existent

Really? Heard it last week after they thrashed the Raiders.

Admittedly it was Mike Hoskings (don't ask how I got on to that), and although I suspect there was a degree of irony there was plenty of self satisfaction at how they had fought back.

    Who?

They were absolutely awful last week and only won because the team they played also sucked. Any half competent side would have beat us by double digits

Yeah they have. Some of them are actually being serious too.

there are a few mitigating factors in the Warriors current situation

The most obvious being based out of a hotel for 2 years, playing in front of tourists in a strange stadium.

They have no feeder teams currently playing, so they have no way of bringing new talent through.

All of that makes them a very tough sell for attracting any talent.

But those excuses, while very valid on a results basis, do not explain the amount of times the side just quits. Melbourne got ugly because most players gave up. Yesterday was an abomination that came not two weeks later!! The coaching and leadership need serious questions asked.

Rugby league teams get beat when down to 12. Rugby league teams get well beat when down to 11. The Warriors couldn't even muster up a linebreak.

They actually live in houses now. And many of the players have their families over. I don't doubt it is still hard to play every game as an away game. But sheesh the Warriors are hard on their fans

the flip side of this post is

Stop appointing seriously shit coaches. Coaches who were known to be pretty ordinary before they got the job.

                      100% this.

A lot of similar talk about the Blues are few years ago and look where they are now.

                        shamelessly stolen from elsewhere

Here's a few Warriors stats for the season to cheer us all up

                        • 16th in run metres
                        • 16th in offloads
                        • 16th in tackle breaks
                        • 16th in decoy runs
                        • 2nd most missed tackles
                        • 13th in line breaks, and 15th in line break assists.

Which is damning on the coaching staff, and the halves.
And highlights the complete lack of attacking ability in the backline.

Don't worry the Warriors have signed another couple of young Aussies. So not only are they going to suck, the Warriors are going to be full of Aussies who If they are any good will bail at the first opportunity.

i do not blame them. Success in rugby league is:

                            Win the comp

The other thing about signing a lot Aussies, and I am sure it's been mentioned on here before, is the potential to alienate the NZ fan base. Do NZers really want to get behind a team of Aussies?

One of the things I enjoyed about watching the NRL was keeping an eye out for up and coming Kiwis. That has gone for me now with the emergence of Tonga etc. It was bad enough wondering whether Origin was going to take Kiwis, now the Islands are a factor too.

I have heard that the Warriors have invested a lot in grass roots recently. My best memories were of the team of young kids that ended up going to the grand final. If they can bring through home grown players it will be cheaper and they will want to play for the jersey. There was a time we were the best at Toyota Cup level. What happened?

Here's a few Warriors stats for the season to cheer us all up

                                  • 16th in run metres
                                  • 16th in offloads
                                  • 16th in tackle breaks
                                  • 16th in decoy runs
                                  • 2nd most missed tackles
                                  • 13th in line breaks, and 15th in line break assists.

Which is damning on the coaching staff, and the halves.
And highlights the complete lack of attacking ability in the backline.

I don't agree with that it highlights the complete lack of attacking ability in our backline, however I agree with the rest. Its amazing how good a team can look if every player knows where they need to run in advance in a play. Most successful attacking raids do require decoys and halves calling plays, none of which looks like it is obviously happening well (if at all). The Storm who are the best at executing a plan, know what is required on almost every play, which makes average players look like world beaters. When they go to other teams they normally show how average they are.

Our offload execution has been poor as well. When we have tried to offload, I would suggest without knowing we probably lead the ineffective offload statistic. Coupled with the fact that we have not being doing many is a worry as tabled then that shows we are not not getting much second phase ball, which also shows the importance of getting the structured plays right.

Im surprised there doesn't seem to much emphasis on defence either, I know some of our backline is young but they are making a lot of basic errors. However one thing that seems inbred in this team over many years, is once you are losing by a bit, throw in the towel. That is always disappointing.

Lack of execution- of any play from all involved is my biggest pain point. I never see enough decoy runners on hardly any play which does not help our halves either, if you only have one obvious target, a play is easy to shut down. If everyone is not executing that then should reflect on coaching which above all.

A calm head like Tohu back may help some defensive structure issues, but he is not going to fix the rest.

I don't know much about league, so wonder how easy it is to change between positions on the field? I noticed that Leo Thompson is listed as a prop and used as a prop in the Knight's first rounds, but is now playing at lock. Is it correct to assume that the difference between league frontrowers and backrowers is smaller than in rugby?

@Stargazer Very little difference in the current ways team are set up between front row and the lock jersey. However the lock (13) should have better balls skills as is often used as a link player, hitting up but not taking the tackle and often passing behind. Edge backrowers 11, 12 are different and currently tend to be forwards that could play in the centers or ex centers, again generally breaking or creating gaps. Ironically given Leo's background he could probably play on the edge, but since he started at prop, playing at 13 would be good for him.

yeah 8, 10, and 13 are just middle forwards really.
