Watching de Groot closely in recent games he spends a lot of time sucking in big breaths, and on one knee or getting attention. He could be carrying an injury but I would question his fitness.

@taniwharugby won't hear an argument from me. Reffing quality is fucking shite right now with guys like Pickeral and O'Keefe running around.

@Bones I also dont like that it is called 'foul play'

To me, foul indicates dirty play

High tackles were pretty dirty in my day 😁

        Watch it at normal speed...

Certainly no malice.. Not deliberately head hunting..

Im guessing it's being implied that he was beaten, therefore shouldn't attempt the tackle.. As he wasn't going to be able to get low enough.

Not sure what you're arguing with here. Normal speed or not, it's penalty at best, Dickson was really low. "what's he supposed to do" is not a defence though

What I'm poorly articulating.. Is that in that situation players when beaten and out of position to make a safe tackle shouldn't attempt the tackle in the 1st place..

I have tried so much harder this season to stop being so hard on the refs, but unfortunately, he has never been upto it, I still recall his debut game reffing Northland

I find it impossible to not be critical of the officiating as it is... Not for a moment do I suggest it's easy....
Its simply a mess with the NZ refs in particular.. Inconsistent from one moment to the next...

I would be interested to have more transparency from the referees during the week and actually let us in on how they are looking to interpretate different areas of the game etc..

I haven't been following the thread, and I am a Highlanders fan.

But is anyone else worried about Aaron Smith being blatantly offside at a ruck in the lead up to the second try by the clan?

yeah unfortunately tseems like they are all but a secret society.

I assume they must have some ranking system they use that helps with match appointments, maybe they should be releasing this sort of information or at least more data (like Pickerell has the most resets)

Is being held up from a kick off different than being held up from a kick?

                      Yes.

Turnover ball if from a kick off. The taken from kick rule does not apply to kickoffs.

But to be honest I've given up on decent ref/TMO decisions, it's swings and roundabouts, I just treat it like the random bounce of an odd shaped ball

Go on Paea. Break a tackle, just one, I dare you. You don't have to hit the deck if someone puffs in your direction.

That's OK then. I don't know what the TMO protocols are these days but I would have been OK with that being looked at by the TMO if within 2 phases.

Landers have been so lazy with ruck penalties, maybe cos they're so dominant in the game and happy to give them. But coach killer lazy penalties

But is anyone else worried about Aaron Smith being blatantly offside at a ruck in the lead up to the second try by the clan?

That's OK then. I don't know what the TMO protocols are these days but I would have been OK with that being looked at by the TMO if within 2 phases.

I think 2 phases is not a thing any more.

                                    Could well be.

I feel like I am only half a step from being a grumpy old man shaking my fist and saying "would never have been allowed in my day..."

It's amazing Kahui is still playing given he was always injury prone.
