Is this the year of the Wallabies?

When I start to piece together a top Australian 23 from the players involved with Super Rugby only (excluding the likes of Samu Kerevi playing in Japan), one thing is pretty clear - the Wallabies look to have a great balance of experience and X factor to give the All Black’s a real crack at the Bledisloe in 2022.

I’ve tried having a go at a match day 23 but I’m sure there is plenty of room for debate. I’ve gone for the injection of youth with Bell, Lonergan and Wilson in the pack and I have kept the cart horse that is Hodge well away from the backs.

Is this 23 better than the All Blacks top side? That remains to be seen, however there is some exciting talent in Australia atm. I’ve probably missed a couple of players aswell.

    1. Angus Bell
    2. Lauchlan Lonergan
    3. Taniela Tupou
    4. Matt Philip
    5. Darcy Swain
    6. Rob Valetini
    7. Michael Hooper
    8. Harry Wilson
    9. Tate McDermott
    10. James O’Connor
    11. Andrew Kellaway
    12. Len Ikitau
    13. Izaia Perese
    14. Jordan Petaia
    15. Tom Banks
    16. Folau Fainga’a
    17. James Slipper
    18. Michael Ala’alatoa
    19. Izack Rodda
    20. Pete Samu / Fraser McReight

That’s my concern aswell, I feel Australia are a lot more settled than we are in terms of combinations.

Someone's random 23, I won't comment on props as I have no idea but no Tupou is great in open field. Bolding those that are better for ABs IMO

        Moody?,Hogman?, Norris?

S Taukei'aho Taylor is also better

        O Tu'ungafasi

        B Retallick

S Whitelock despite both being not their peak still better than Oz

T Vaii (personally think he is the future at six) Nah Ioane

        S Cane (c)

        A Savea

        A Smith

        B Barrett

        C Clarke

J Barrett Lotsa experience, top offloader which great in midfield, and does the kicks

        R Ioane Is awesome

        S Reece Work rate

        W Jordan Not even close

Bench is less important and changes a lot but ours still looks better

        C Taylor

No idea. Can we steal Antonio from the French? He is Kiwi so...

Is it to soon for the mighty Williams?

        S Barrett

        D Papalii

        F Fakatava

        R Mo'unga

        L Fainga'anuku or RTS

@Canes4life Happy if Rennie chooses Lonergan at hooker as he looked like a lightweight against the French.

@Canes4life Kerevi and Koroibete walk straight in and should be available. Probably Quade too.

Are we going to win the Bledisloe? Fuck no. To do so means winning at Eden Park which may very well never happen again.

Good result for Aussie rugby and the Brumbies - there was talk that Lolesio, White and Frost might all go overseas but all 3 have re-signed for the Brumbies.

@KiwiMurph the presence of Larkham might be a carrot, but having these signings continue will give other players some food for thought.

So that is half the backline sorted for England. Next up is figuring out the rest.

Ideally you'd have your 9 & 10 from the same franchise because combinations but in this case we all pretty know Quade is starting.

That Hooper kid from the Brumbies would be my bolter for blindside. He's got all the right attributes but lacks experience.

                                        Reading some comments from Rennie:

"We're going to pick 35 in our squad, there'll be 30 in the Australian A side," Rennie said. "That's come into our thinking, there might be the odd guy who we think might be better served with three games at another level higher than Super Rugby, rather than maybe sitting in the background and not getting an opportunity against England.

"And then there's the option, if we feel that some guys need some footy who are in our squad, to maybe send them to Fiji potentially for the third Test to get some rugby."
