    @Stargazer well well well....

    That Rotorua game was awesome. At Johns looked the better side at times. Good free flowing footy from both teams.

    St Pats tripping up Palmy Boys, what an upset. Is this the year wellington finally has a decent team?

    @Left-Right-Out-0 By Wellington standards possibly. Remember Silverstream suffered a close 24 nil loss to Hastings up at Porirua Park a couple of weeks ago and for them to get that close indicates a slight evening in standards between the schools in this neck of the woods.

    @Higgins i watched that Hastings game on Sideline. Stream had all the ball and territory in 2nd half too. Considering what Hastings then went on to do the next week vs Scots and what theyd do to alot of the better schools in NZ, id say Stream are on the up. Still lacking in the halves but Emmanuel at 2nd 5 is super talented. Their outside backs looked different to a week ago vs GBHS, missing the jinky fullback and winger. Their forwards are rock solid on defence. I expect them to see off stiff competiton from Scots and maybe Rongotai this year

    @Canes4life No, I don't know the score. I just saw a graphic advertising the match. It is a winter exchange fixture.

    Didn't make the game despite it being a gloriously fantastic warm and sunny day here in the Bay (but certainly a chilly start it must be confessed!) Looks like the scorekeeper must have stopped recording the points scored by the home side once they reached 30 (bit like the junior cricket situation when you often retire once you score 30 runs).
    Does the NBHS v Scots College fixture fall into the traditionals or exchanges category?

    @Higgins It's a sports exchange: also 1st XI Football, 1st XI Hockey, Premier A Basketball and Senior A Badminton.

    @Stargazer Where are the traditional country sports like fencing and shearing and possum shooting that the boarders at NBHS would be skilled at? Obviously Scots would have to concede those by default!

    St John's and Matamata College were Moascar Cup defences.

    Edit: Massey HS is the next challenge on June 1, and then the home Super 8 games.

    The competition, which is the largest and one of the most geographically spread 1st XV competitions in the country, including teams from South and Mid Canterbury, Canterbury, and Ta$man is set to split into two competitions in a bid to address concerns around player wellbeing, reducing the season length to implement the ‘Balance in Better’ philosophy in youth sport.

    Reducing the number of round robin games played from 13 to 9, the new Premiership and Championship format will better align with summer sports, reduce player load, and improve the long-term financial sustainability of the competitions.

    It also means being in a better position to welcome new schools to the competition.

    Reducing the size of the competition will allow time for traditional school games with teams from outside the competition, as well as between schools who are not in the same division. While the Premiership will offer opportunities for traditional inter school fixtures inside and outside the competition, the Championship has opened the door for new opportunities to be created as well as continuing traditional rivalries.

    The Premiership will move to a 10-team competition while the Championship will initially feature a handful of 2nd XV sides.

    Movement between the two competitions is still being worked through with the schools, with a focus on achieving a fair and equitable outcome but there will be promotion and relegation.

    Mid Canterbury Combined schools withdrew at the start of the season due to a lack of capable players, so it's already hard for the smaller schools.
