England’s top order failed again but because we completely shat the bed when we were batting they’re in the box seat.
Only slim chance is getting Root early, otherwise we’re fucked and due to give them their first test win in 17-18 tests ( I think )
Yeah, we especially need to get rid of Root early before he gets his eye in... we were disappointing in our home test series, now we put in a shite performance in this 1st test against the poms... also got to wonder about the fitness of Williamson, for such a class batsman he's batted poorly in both innings.
It’s the ebbs and flows of cricket. I’m sure he’s due one ( hopefully more ) massive score this series.
We do rely on him but England rely even more on Root.
Williamson's has had serious injury problems with his elbow, just wondering if it's affecting him ?
A part of what made/makes Williamson great is his work ethic. Apparently he would spend a lot of time drilling his batting. Unfortunately I read a few weeks ago Stead saying his elbow will need to be managed from now on, meaning his training workload is perhaps not what it once was. Maybe that is why he is struggling a bit now.
I said a while ago it would be a shame if his career was hampered in it's twilight like Crowe's was.

Southee was getting nothing out of the wicket, making it fairly easy going for the home side.

Worth pointing out that Patel has bowled two shitty overs all test. What a typical “let’s play a spinner for the sake of a spinner” waste of a selection.
Maybe he would have been more useful on the final day... I still would have taken Wags
