Young has scored 13 runs in his last five innings.

Is his place under pressure once Nicholls comes back and do they shuffle Conway up to open ?

He’s shown talent but so frustrating he hasn’t yet converted one of his 50s into something much bigger.

And Latham 31 runs in his last five innings (14, 1, 1, 0, 15)... 252 the innings before that v Bangladesh in Christchurch, but it's fair to say these two aren't exactly seeing off the new ball at the moment...

Williamson doesn't tend to bat that well in England... wonder what his average is in their conditions ?

After butchering a great opportunity to win the first test we need to win this one... not just to get back in the series, but also redeem themselves.

And Kane is out with the scratchy cough.

So likely Michael Bracewell will come in and make his test debut.

Hamish Rutherford is also now back in the squad.

I'm not even sure why Bracewell was put on the plane in the first place.

I'll always support his selection. He is a fantastically talented cricketer who was on the cusp of multiple chances over the years. I'm really happy to see him get his chance.

    So I guess something like...

    1. Latham (c)
    2. Young
    3. Conway
    4. Nicholls (if fit, otherwise Rutherford is in the mix, and he might swap with Young?)
    5. Bracewell
    6. Mitchell
    7. Blundell
    8. Jamieson
    9. Wagner
    10. Southee
    11. Boult

    ... perhaps. (And yes, I know 9 & 10 won't bat in that order 🙂 )

And despite it being TSF heresy with the we loves Wag's crew, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they go with Henry instead. I wonder if they might based on his county form over the years, plus he's one of the technically better lower batsmen around. Patel drops out from being underbowled anyway, plus with Bracewell in the mix.

I suppose Ravindra is another option, he certainly has the talent, but he has yet to take his chances.

He didn't put his case forward against the might of the Netherlands in my mind.

All indications are that Patel will play.

Latham's record as test captain makes me confident - not!

Trent Bridge is now a Spin friendly ground.Since Aswin joined Notts it has been a spin bowlers dream the last couple of seasons.

Wags doesn't care what the conditions are. In fact he relishes it when they are less than helpful. I can't believe they still make the mistake of not playing him

Missed out in the big games. But in the two warm up games he hit 208 across two games, striking at over 110 without being dismissed.

Missed out is a very nice way of saying failed. Three times.

If they pick Bracewell then they are covered anyway personally I would pick Wagner instead of Patel. And select Bracewell in Kanes spot.

With our best batsman gone and going into a match 1-0 in an away series I guess we can take the underdog status at least

I hope the batting order reported on cricinfo is incorrect, makes no sense:

New Zealand 1 Tom Latham (capt), 2 Will Young, 3 Devon Conway, 4 Henry Nicholls, 5 Daryl Mitchell, 6 Tom Blundell (wk), 7 Michael Bracewell, 8 Kyle Jamieson, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Matt Henry, 11 Trent Boult.

Time for Latham to front up with the bat against Not Bangladesh in this first session.

    Ridiculous.

Things have turned to shit at an astonishing rate of knots.

Bracewell is such a stop gap selection.
