Key point from this ad, is when are we getting 4k sky?

@Machpants might upgrade to 4k Stan for July and see whether the extra $10 is worth it... and whether my third-rate* internet can handle it.

(* using "third world" feels inappropriate when the third world often has better internet)

You should be able to get by on 25 Mbps for 4K (so long as not downloading much else) . Some sources even suggest as low as 15 Mbps, although that might be "ersatz 4K"...

So, unless you have corroded copper FTTN**(thanks, Malcolm!) it's worth a shot.

      ** That would be fourth-rate.

@Kiap not sure about the corrsion, but there is ~930m of copper between my house and the nearest node, so....

I get about 26mbps on average.

Fibre arriving some time soon apparently.

I'd say you were right then, 3rd rate -- if there's no dropouts, that is (some other poor saps can't even get consistent 25Mbps).

Some folks are already signing up for the FibreConnect upgrade. If you contact your provider (provided they're not a shit tier ISP) and your area is eligible now, they can probably hook you up in around 5-6 weeks.

I can get 1000mbps from one provider when fibre finally arrives - the catch: it is 1000/50 which seems... well, fucked...

                    And $149 a month.

Unfortunately we can't get cheap internet because the muppet who originally set up the framework insisted NBN achieve a market return. Considering our net debt, it would be a better solution if it was added to the books and the capex just accepted as a sunk cost.

Very few dropouts. TBH it is quite stable and Exetel are probably doing the best job they can in shit circumstances.

I honestly have more issues with the Google Wifi than the connection to the outside world.

I've emailed them - last time I checked they had no idea.

Fuck me, I'm in a little coastal village and I'm on gig

I can get 1000mbps from one provider when fibre finally arrives - the catch: it is 1000/50 which seems... well, fucked...

                                  And $149 a month.

I'm on a gig plan, actual is 950/500, $85 with no contract, I can swap any time a better deal arrives

                                  In Oz?

Nope little NZ, in a village of 500

Unfair - as I said above: much of the 3rd world has better internet than us.

@Kiap not sure about the corrsion, but there is ~930m of copper between my house and the nearest node, so....

I get about 26mbps on average.

I'd say you were right then, 3rd rate -- if there's no dropouts, that is (some other poor saps can't even get consistent 25Mbps).

Fibre arriving some time soon apparently.

Some folks are already signing up for the FibreConnect upgrade. If you contact your provider (provided they're not a shit tier ISP) and your area is eligible now, they can probably hook you up in around 5-6 weeks.

My area is NOT eligible now, according to the return email I just received :sad_but_relieved_face:

You might still become eligible, though. Think the rollout wil take some years.

The guy pulling cable through the street pits back in April said it would be around 4 months. Which I refused to believe.

                                        Just plug it in, nerds!

Anyways, back onto the topic: no big boy rugby this weekend in these parts. Waiting for the Tests to start next week.

Tough away game against Merrylands this weekend. We nearly knocked off a top 4 side in both grades on Saturday but just little things. Second Grade are two good decisions away from being in finals contention at this point, with a failure to find touch on both occasions gifting possession back to the opposition after the bell for the winning score.
