Napier attacking in Taurang's half again, but they're getting no where.

Hastings scrum in their own half, and their no. 8 goes for a run.
Wow, beautiful flick pass from the hooker .. a few phases later, and Josh Leach goes over for a try (commentator says it's his second).

    The conversion is good.

    10 - 26 Hastings.

Napier finally get a penalty, about midway Tauranga's half. What kind of kick was that? Yikes.

Clearance kick from Tauranga, line-out still in their half.

Tauranga steal it and they think they scored, but it was a Rieko Ioane type grounding and ref says he knocked it on.

    Napier scrum on their 5m.

Gisborne lin-out on the halfway line. Hastings defending well, thus far, but Gisborne get the penalty for offside.

Napier still attacking well, but can they finish?

It looked like Gisborne scored, but no try. Phew. Hastings' clearance is good.

In the other game, Napier was close to scoring, but somehow it's again a penalty in Tauranga's favour. Couldn't see what for.
Napier regain possession though and go again.

Now, Napier getting the penalty and they go for the line-out, close to Tauranga's try line.

Gisborne is throwing the kitchen sink at Hastings, and are attacking hard. Can the defence hold?

Another penalty to Napier. Another line-out.

The drive is good ... and it's a try!! Finally. Well-deserved.

    The kick isn't good.

    5 - 10 Tauranga

Straight from the re-start, Napier go back on attack.

Tauranga give away another penalty. Time for a card, ref?

In the other game, Hastings also get a penalty. They're going for the line-out, too..

Napier's line-out ges nowhere. Tauranga steal it, but knock on.

Gisborne steals Hastings' line-out, the clearance kick goes high but not far, but they get a penalty. Line-out Gisborne on the midway line.

Napier score another try! In the corner. Adam Curran? Not sure who dotted down.

Difficult conversion attempt .. but it's good!

    12 - 10 Napier

It's going back and forth between Gisborne and Hastings in the other game.

The oranges did their job for Napier. Or the coach's speech. But they're playing better.

Hastings line-out close to Gisborne's try line. Pick and go, now. Hmm, penalty Gisborne.

Ouch, that looked like a tip tackle by a Tauranga player. He gets yellow. Why not red? Because the Napier player landed on his back and not his head? Shouldn't matter, should it?

Napier captain talks to the ref and doesn't look happy. Anyway, game continues. Napier go for the line-out.

Oh wait, it's a Napier scrum. Close to Tauranga's try line.

In the other game, Gisborne is attacking hard, but give away the penalty.

Tauranga can't get out of their 5m. A forward pass (?) leads to a Napier scrum.

And Napier scores another try! I think it wa big Gus Brown, who has been very busy in this game.

    The conversion kick misses.

    17 - 10 Napier

Gisborne has scored a try, but miss the conversion. I didn't see what happened, but Tauranga were parked in Hastings' half for a while.

    15 - 26 Hastings

    Not much time left.

Tauranga desparately trying to attack, but thus far Napier is defending well. Still in Tauranga's half. Tauranga knock on. All players look tired. It's been a good game to watch (with one eye). Napier's 2nd half was excellent. The first had too many handling errors.

Full time: Napier Boys' 17 - 10 Tauranga Boys

I briefly thought Hastings game was over, but for some reason they've moved to the next field. Can't see any lines on the field.

Gisborne still attacking hard. Can't be much time left though.

Yessss, another try to Hastings! Another player with two tries, last name Tulima???

    The conversion is good!

    15 - 33 Hastings

    Still no full time.

It's full time! A great, well-deserved win to Hastings. Apart from the beginning of the game, they were the dominant side and never looked like giving up their lead.

Full time: Gisborne Boys' 15 - 33 Hastings Boys'

Both Hawke's Bay Schools win their Super 8 game. Hastings also book a bonus point. Awesome.

As ever, cheers for the updates - unfortunately due to my current work situation I was unable to watch the game (will likely post in the Happiness Thread over the weekend to vent about this) so was awesome to be able to follow in the thread. Obviously the result helped too. And a begrudgingly good on Napier too. 😉

I found the Hastings Boys' team line-up. It has Karl Lowe's eldest son on the bench.

    HASTINGS BHS
1 Isireli Qaranivalu, 2 Aone Lolofie, 3 Maiti Leef, 4 Oscar Ritchie, 5 Josh Leach, 6 Fletcher Bainbridge, 7 Rudy Ioasa, 8 Matolu Petaia, 9 Jehmial Ross (captain), 10 Kobe Deacon, 11 Mokau Lambert, 12 Tali Ioasa, 13 Heta Tulima, 14 Taufa Kaufononga, 15 Bryson Crawford-Pakoti.

Reserves: 16 Membrenz Tahu, 17 Vikta Tevita, 18 Shane McNaughten, 19 Tom Allen, 20 Reuben Allen, 21 Noah Ioasa, 22 Kyan Lowe.
