Bird was meant to fly to Tyneside from Guernsey, but instead travelled across the Atlantic Ocean and finished up in the US

I was amazed to hear my 1997 Triumph Adventurer (think an americanized bastard version of a Thunderbird) - currently stranded in London with a mate - has apparently passed the ULEZ compliance test.
Good luck with that, Mark. (As if Mark from Carlton in Yorkshire who builds coal-powered motorbikes has any intention of EVER visiting London.)

    1997 Triumph Adventurer

I googled that and this review came up.....

The Adventurer is a glitzy, cruiser style version of the Thunderbird. It’s an OK motorcycle, thanks mostly to the stupendous Triumph triple engine, but the Triumph Adventurer is about as cool and stylish as purple velvet loon pants

Wound open the Triumph Adventurer's engine sounds like a squadron of Lancasters

    I prefer the latter comment..

Ha - yes, that's the review I got when I first saw it for sale, and googled it. Actually - I'm sure it used to be even more scathing.
But yeah - my mind was made up to buy it by the time I got to "velvet loon pants".

Edit: found my blog entry from the time of buying it:

Anyway – the new bike. A 1997 Triumph Adventurer… when doing a bit of research on it… one of the first reviews I read had described it using the phrase “adds dollop of crass to already glittery, faux concoction.” This intrigued me. But when I went on to read “…the Triumph Adventurer is about as cool and stylish as purple velvet loon pants.” – I bought the bike without ever having actually seen/touched it – let alone sat on it.

And yeah - that description of the sound... pretty accurate. Riding it through central London used to be fun. Many heads turned.
