One of the guys dead from the boat caught in the bad weather up North is from the same year as me at college.

It's going to be really sad for the family involved, and I'm sure at least one poster here will also know the family.

Sounds like there might be more as he was with friends (who I may also know).

Gutted mate. I know Lance pretty well and have fished the three kings on that boat about 15 years ago. Horrible news.

@booboo I'm North and West, but not quite in that particular flood zone, so good to go.

    We're even playing rugby today!

Six-hourly rainfall totals between 100mm to 160mm are possible.

WE had warm rainfall in Surrey yesterday too.

It's been really warm and sunny recently so I booked a round of golf. And of course, it was a drizzly afternoon. Boo. Not golf terminal though, but then down the 18th the heavens properly opened. Properly. But the rain was warm, sort of like tropical warm. Very strange given that it was a 16-17 degree day.

30 minutes later there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

Climate change deniers are just plain wrong.

You've heard of the definition of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

So the Mary River has just had it's third flood in 2022. That's 3 floods in 4 months.

Thankfully this last one is nowhere near as as bad January and March.

Nor has Maryborough been hit at all this time (stayed below "minor" flood level).

But Gympie town centre has gone under again (at least parts of it).

FYI - cutting Gympie and Maryborough off may threaten toilet paper and alcohol supplies to Hervey Bay ...

    ... so potential catastrophic disaster

How often do you allow your business to flood and try and rebuild/re-establish in the same place?

Since we moved to Qld they've flooded AT LEAST in 2011, 2013, 3x this year ... and I'm pretty sure a few other times that I cant get results from google. (Pretty sure at least 2x additional floods ... ).

So why do you try and build back in the same place? It's just going to flood again!?!? And then expect is to feel sorry for you?

Seems seriously fucking stupid to me.

How you holding up @NTA and other Sydney Ferners? Damp again?

Much floodness this year. Getting silly.

If I may whinge ... a 14 deg high with rain and drizzle all day is NOT what I signed on to when I shifted here.

Distinct NZ feels outside today. Like when you're about to go run round in the mud at Gribblehirst Park or Nola Block ... (google them ... )

Yeah she moist in these parts. This was rugby on Saturday. Great scrum weather, but you don't really get the full effect without video 😉

And then the river came right up - and quickly! The growing issue in my part of NW Sydney is urbanisation; all the feeder creeks are getting hammered because pasture land is being eaten away by paved surfaces and drainage. The outcome is faster water egress to channels. Have a look at various parts of the area immediately south of Windsor, where the river is flooding and badly:

I got drenched yesterday on my walk home from work. Completely drenched like I was living back in Palmy again. WFH today.

It's not really that cold though, just wet.
