Australia v England - 2nd Test

I don’t think so. He’s going for the intercept.

He’s going for the intercept ffs.
And failed
High reward, high risk

Aussie commentators' lack of understanding of the rules is a hard listen. Been this way for years.

@nzzp it’s not because he’s clearly going for the intercept.

Going for an intercept by throwing one arm in the air whilst jumping, yeah nah. Easy YC when the attacking team are in the red zone.
-
Some of you are showing the same misunderstanding of the laws as the Australian commentators. It's a clear knock on with no reasonable prospect of being an intercept and hence falls into foul play territory.
All he did was throw an arm into the path of the ball.
-
Aus need to score next.

Not by the definition in the English language,
But yes, by the definition/interpretation of World Rugby.
Amazed, but happy, that wasn't a Penalty Try. -

They need a red card to spark them up.

So any failed interception is a deliberate knock on...
I thought the rule was not slapping the ball in a downward motion -

yep. But
https://www.world.rugby/the-game/laws/law/11It is not an intentional knock-on if, in the act of trying to catch the ball, the player knocks on provided that there was a reasonable expectation that the player could gain possession.
Jumping one hander = not a reasonable expectation.
Whatever your opinion, the way the game is reffed these days it's a YC if there is an overlap
-
That looked high on Lolesio.

Exactly this.
If you said it's not a deliberate knock-on unless the player was actually trying to smack it without catching it then the offence wouldn't exist.
-
I don’t think so. He’s going for the intercept.

Since when has it been ruled like that? 2012? That is a clear YC under these interpretations. Whether it should be or not is another question. If that wasn't a YC, then it would be hard for any deliberate knock to be a YC,

Excellent cover tackle
