@canefan of the forgettable things about the prequels...padme isn't one of them
The prequels fucken rock. The only forgettable parts were talks of trade disputes.

Having rewatched them recently I almost hate them (just for the shits and gigs, I think my thoughts on them are well known on here). If I was a man-baby I would say they ruined Star Wars for me ... but I'm not, I still love the OG Trilogy and a bunch of the new stuff. In 10 years time I'll probably rewatch them again to see if I feel the same way and get into a shitfight about it on the Fern.

Bloody hell, your “Star Wars prequel” Bat senses are as good as your “Hawkes Bay” Bat senses ! Amazing turnaround time !
The Last Jedi is the worst Star Wars movie. By far.

Hee hee, it's not even bottom four for me. (3 prequels and JJ's successful attempt at emulating the prequels for Rise).

i would only argue that RoS was nearly as bad..."somehow...the emperor survived"....but then a parsec to any of the others

this is whats wrong with star wars fans....they do something different with the prequels and the fans are all "theyre not the movies i know and love"...so they they do something very similar...."its just a OT rip off!"
-
This is fan art...but i would watch it, i actually read the comic "the rise of kylo ren" out of curiosity and it was alright, filled in some holes, a bit of adventuring etc
a big problem star wars has though is everything is some sort of prequel, i saw someone point out the other day, "Andor" is a prequel to "rogue one"...which is a prequel to "a new hope"...and the problem with prequels is you know how they end

There was so much good material in the stuff that Disney deemed to be 'Legends' which was mostly post the movies. It's great to see some of it being weaved back in (eg Thrawn) but mostly it was better than what they came up with new.
Luke's continuation with the introduction of Mara Jade had great potential as did Han and Leia's kids eventually going full circle with their eldest embracing the dark side in trying to 'balance' things again.
Along the way there were excellent adventures and stories told.
-
@Crucial yeah, i didn't enjoy all the post RotJ stuff...but it definitely had better bones that what they did
I like TFA in general, i like how they tried to make it familer...the one thing i really didn't like was how they just destroyed the new republic...basically undoing everything achieved in the OT just because they went too far and wanted to be the underdogs with a ragtag resistance again
I would much rather they told some "smaller" stories IN the new republic, stories of the dark side growing in the unknown regions...going to investigate, hell there was a great episode of "star wars visions" with some jedi investigating a small town and stumbling across a super powerful dark side user in hiding, or another about about a group that meet looking for a lightsaber smith, you think they are new padawan on a journey to build their first lightsaber....and the twist was there were all dark siders, effectovely a little cult, both well done, nothing to do with the skywalkers but really cool Star wars stories

In the books there was a lot more about the remnants of the Empire which makes heaps of sense. The movies jumped to these being a fully formed regime but there's heaps more in the books about fleets of Star Destroyers hiding in the Outer Regions (Rogue Squadron and Thrawn stories), factories and experimental labs (like we glimpsed in Mando). Plenty of baddies for Jedi to deal with while supposedly 'in balance' but then a thread of rising dark side influences from within.
-
@Crucial very true, i did read one of the aftermath books, wasn't a fan of the style but i did like how there were a hand full of star destroyers operating individually, just their captains and crews, and a former advisor to the emperor trying to invoke some authority over them bring them together, it was believable

did anyone watch any Visions? largely crazy "what if?" stuff but a couple were really good

I think (although I may be wrong) that you slightly misunderstood me, I really like TFA, I'm genuinely bemused how revisionist the criticism of it is.
But, RoS felt like a prequel in tone and I don't like the prequels, not because they're different, just their execution (and I'm fully aware that there's a whole generation who came to Star Wars via the prequels so they probably feel about them as I do the original trilogy).
Plus, I liked TLJ, it could have been better but I still liked it way more the RoS.

i think i did mis read your post apologies, i thought you said awakens but you said rise
There are just a couple of big things for me in TLJ that really put me off....they could have given leia/carrie fisher a heroic end by having her force push OTHERS back through the door before drifting into space....but they introduce force flying...make her slightly selfish and kept carrie fishers character after she had died, that and the whole side quest that achieved very little...actually and the whole idea of just going slightly faster...why not just jump past them and then jump back on the other side!...and pretty much the whole republic fleet were in the system that was destroyed?!....calm...i did rewatch and when i can zone out some of that stuff it was more enjoyable than i originally remembered

Yeah, I agree on the Carrie Fisher end, also I would have liked Admiral Ackbar to have been the commander going down with the ship.
I haven't had a second watch of RoS yet, haven't been able to force myself, but will do so at some stage, I hope it improves with a bit of space and time.
