Some very odd happenings going in Auckland club rugby .
Vaolini Ekuasi transfered mid season to East Tamaki
Andrew Kavienga transfered from Eden to Manukau
Thomas Strachan who played in the Northland club final 2 weeks ago for Waipu started at halfback for Grammar Tech yesterday as did Tovo Faleafa at number 8 who played the entire club season for Old Boys Marist in Whangarei ..
And the Nico Costa transfering to Manukau Rovers makes no sense ..

@Steven-Harris must be some serious loopholes in the regulations if these very late transfers are allowed to take part in playoff matches.

Unsure why Ekuasi made the switch. He went from a contender to a mid table team with no shot at the title.

Was Kavienga registered to Eden? He hasn't played any games for Eden this year.

Who did Costa play for before the Rovers? Normally he's with Eden, but he hasn't played any games for Eden this year either.

@Dice I was wondering if Costa was playing in America? None of the Costa brothers have played for Eden this year.

@Dice There seems to have been a mass exodus from the strong Eden team of the previous few seasons. There are few names I recognize from last season and they finished second last in the round robin this season.
The Gallaher Shield semi finals next weekend are Ponies v GT and Varsity v Manukau.

A big reason why they've struggled this year.

They don't have David Bateman as coach anymore. Maybe that has something to do with the exodus?

@Steven-Harris GT have a history of this stuff. A story from coaching against them with age group teams. Their team magically registered 2 star League players in time for the playoffs, a flanker and a midfielder. They put them straight into the starting team, but it backfired and we beat them anyway because the flanker got penalized at every second ruck because he didn't know the rules and the midfielder never passed so made their otherwise dangerous backline easy to defend. Talking to some of their parents it pissed them off too, that kids who played all season were dropped for 2 league players. They seemed to have a lot of influence at the union committee levels. We once beat a team that had not lost for 4 seasons in the first comp game of the season and it was turned into a non-comp game after the event!
Other stuff that happened is one of their players Uncle being rostered to ref us every time we played them and all of our games over 3 seasons were either away or at neutral grounds. We never got to play them at home. The evil empire I say.👿 and now we have to play them in the Gallaher semi final next week👼🏽 😅

@Steven-Harris he was also picked for Aussie A for the recent Pacific series. he's 22, 1m94, 100kg. He scored a try vs MP here at 4m 50secs.

Did the Auckland club competition start late? Most other provinces seem to have allowed their players to miss the early NPC pre-season games to play in the club finals but Auckland is doing the opposite and removing NPC players from club playoff games because of the timing.

Very weird for Auckland to play an Aussie loose forward. They are stacked there. Shouldn't be happening.

@Tim especially when Wallace Sititi is playing for Marist today and has not featured at all in preseason games? I hope he isn't lured away. Also Sione Tuipulotu is yet to feature so i don't know if he is returning? Queenslander Connor Vest is also playing today at Lock. I understand them looking for Locks a bit more as we do struggle with Locking depth in Auckland.
