One of the NZ athletes has tested positive to covid (asymptomatic) and is isolating. The rules are different than Tokyo regarding competing if you are positive as it is dependent on the sport and whether you are in close proximity to other athletes.

@Bovidae Do you mean White Fern Melie Kerr?

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/commonwealth-games/300639617/white-ferns-allrounder-melie-kerr-tests-positive-for-covid19-ahead-of-commonwealth-games

Edit: There seems to be a second one. This article from the Herald is from today, so a week after Kerr's. And it seems to be a male athlete, but doesn't say who it is.

NZ team have first Covid case on arrival at Comm Games

The New Zealand team have been hit by their first case of Covid-19 in Birmingham.

With the United Kingdom having eliminated protocols aimed to stop the spread of the virus, the medical committee's monitoring is more about the athlete's wellbeing and their ability to compete at their best, with different sports requiring different energy systems.

@Stargazer It was mentioned on the TV news tonight but no details were given, so yes, a new case. Nigel Avery said they has been in isolation for a couple of days.

Fingers crossed the Final of the Men's Squash will be between the top 2 seeds

Your very own Paul Coll (Seeded 1; World #2) versus our Joel Makin (Seeded 2; World #7)

Joel is the son of my mate Richard, pals since our first day of secondary school back in 1978.

This will be a repeat of the 2018 SF

Flick to the triathlon after the sevens. Wilde is a monster on the bike.

Wilde is smashing it. Two Kiwis in the top three. The chasing pack are 23 seconds behind.

One more lap on the bike for these three who hold a 20 second lead.

@Crucial Yee looks like he’s catching. Wilde will lose gold he’s just got a 10 second time penalty. Ffs.

The commentators were pretty sceptical about the validity of the penalty. Wilde takes back the lead into the final bend, then takes his penalty. That's pretty rough

Must have Ian Chappell in judge's box to have given that! 🙂

Thought Reid should have channeled his inner George Bennett and buried himself on the bike for Wilde.

    Must have done a deal?

NZ are in top spot in the women's team sprint. Should make the gold medal race

I don’t think Wilde lacked energy after the bike work he was fresh as a daisy at the end. That run by Yee was just something else.
Penalty robbed us of a finish though. Must have had a super slow mo to judge that. He certainly had his hand on the helmet clip but it looked like the bike was in before he clicked it. Would have been a difficult decision for him if leading at the end whether to risk a DQ on a challenge.

@Crucial He had a 10 second rest just before the finish to catch his breath.

I wonder whether the 10 second penalty compromised his run a bit - maybe he realised he was going to be fucked. He did look to be labouring a bit on that uphill stretch though - but, then on the last downhill Yee looked a bit like he might be paying for his efforts.

Pretty disappointing not to have a sprint finish - more administrators not giving a fuck about my entertainment?
