I usually try not to tangle in to the negativies of tv shows as I think they are just light enterntainment and nothing to take too seriously, but this episode almost shat me to tears.
Starting out with the hound beheading some ferals and then promising that the mountain would rip new arseholes to some radicals, just to bumble into the same shit the show has been for a while now.

Remember Stannis sacrificing his little daughter to the gods? Fuck that shit was the reason I watch this series, sick, twisted, tits, violence, tits and plot of somekind too.

The makers still get a free pass for the last two episodes, as it has been awesome for quite a while before this season. If it continues as the same im just going to quit watching it. And go watch replays of south park as it seems they are the only pople who wont bend before the easily offended and political correct.

The fact that GRRRRR hasn't finished the book shouldn't really be an issue, given he has been a part of things, you would expect providing direction about where the books are going....maybe the screenplay of his newer storylines are just much worse, or maybe he is happy to have the TV series use some of his alternate storylines (surely he has had many ideas he has never used) while his new books will take a slightly different route?

The HS seems to know so much, if he hadn't already worked out that Cersei intended using the Mountain again for trial by combat, then that adds to some of the stupid shit, so I don't see how the head ripping would have made any difference in that respect...the fact he didn't kill them all is more the point, or the fact the HS is still alive given that storyline is the most boring est storyline ever....

I think you point with Cersei is exactly the issue I have with the writers. They have no concept of what her motivations would be in that scene other then hahaha it would be cool to rip a dudes head off wouldn't it. She was told they were in the red keep, she had time to think about her options, when she saw how few there where and that Lancel was one, she had 2 obvious options. Go with them see what this is all about. Or get zombie mountain to fuck them all up and have them disposed of and then pull the Shaggy defense "It wasn't me",

Sparrow : "Wheres Lancel ?

Cersei: "hmm who knows maybe its a crisis of faith he is having or maybe he got strep throat and died. There is a lot of it going round and we havent invented antibiotics yet. Anywho I havent seen him in ages!"

Instead she decides to show her hand and to the sparrow. Giving away her only viable defense in her trail, just to be sure that the sparrow knows about it so he has time to come up with a way to counter it. Why would a known schemer like her do that its totally out of character and was just shit.

As for the Blackfish you only die a hero if people see you doing something heroic and remember it. If you get iced in a tunnel by 4 Lannister soldiers who then get their mate to knock up some tapestries of them tea bagging your dead corpse. You are remembered as the dude who went out like a bitch. But again the writers did not think that they just thought we don't need him any more, have him die some how but don't make it to expensive, as we have no more money for stunt men.

Its really been downhill this season. To many bad tropes used just to advance the plot. I mentioned it already with the classic one with Bran being in a cave and the tree dude refusing to give him any basic safety advice for tooling around in the space time continuum even though he clearly knows the dangers. Being obtuse for the sake of it is the worst. Its so unrealistic and it takes me out of any story immediately.

I genuinely believed the books would be finished before the tv show caught up and it would continue as an adaptation. I think if this had happened it would have been better as they would have had more material to work off.

Maybe I have a thing against gawky teenagers, I don't care about Ayra but that plummets further when I think of Bran who's basically just a fucken paperweight.

Aw hang on, he has mystical powers, sigh, better watch, he might actually do something

Ramsay has been out of action for 3 episodes now, a touch of psychotic madness from him wouldn't go amiss next week.

I reckon the Arya storyline would have been way better and more fun.. if she had never gone to Bravos or fucked around with the Hound. Just been 'apprenticed' to that assassin geezer (maybe Hound was pat of the assassin gang) as he travelled around Westeros fulfilling contracts. That way her skills would have got kick ass as he trained her, they could have had a hand in Westeros power plays.. why not her kill Dorne king?

Then they could have had her fully trained up as a kick ass assassin, with knowledge of Westeros political situation.

Instead.. they just had her do some half ass training.. and spend lots of time on boats. Pointless.

Having Stark assassin could have been awesome. Now it is just ,,, meh

The biggest battle in the history of Westeros – that we’ve ever witnessed, at least – is happening this Sunday on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and EW has some preview details on the eagerly awaited Battle of the Bastards. Above is an exclusive photo of Jon Snow on the battlefield, Longclaw in hand, and it looks like he’s channeling some serious war-rage as he prepares to take on the forces of fellow bastard Ramsay Bolton.

The hour (literally an hour; the episode is 60 minutes long) is directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who last season helmed the stunning “Hardhome.”

“Every battle on Thrones is unique,” Sapochnik tells us. “I think that’s why [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] keep doing them. In the case of ‘Battle of the Bastards’ – or ‘BOB’ as we affectionately called it in production – David and Dan wanted to do a thing of spectacle, a strategic pitchfield battle they hadn’t had the resources to do back in season 1 or 2. I was particularly interested in depicting both the horror of war and the role of luck in battle.”

The result required 25 days of filming, with 500 extras, 600 crew members and 70 horses – horses, by the way, are “not easy at all” to coordinate in a battle sequence, notes Benioff, which is why they’re rarely used except in big budget war films.

“Miguel did such a fantastic job with ‘Hardhome’ last season, we thought we should bring him back, this time with horses,” Benioff says. “Some of the shots he’s pulled off are some of the best on the show.”

Adds Weiss: “Miguel’s really outdone himself. Fully fleshed out medieval battles require a tremendous amount of resources and choreography to get them right. It feels like we’re doing something fresh that you don’t see on TV and movies very often.”

The role of luck in battle? Fucking aye.

I am sort of playing a FPS game called overwatch at the moment, and it sort of confirms what I already knew. I would be fucked in a battle. Just when I think I have the upper hand in some situation, some bastard or bastardess pops up behind me and kills off my character. Usually I am just left thinking WTF?

I imagine this happening in a medieval battle all the time. Busy battling some guy.. doing ok.. and some prick sticks a pike in your back.

even just Paintball...we played a night game one time, and I found a great spot to hide near their fort, and had people walking about a metre from me while waiting for the right moment to get their flag, I was certain they'd of been able to hear my heart thumping, cos it sounded so loud, and this isn't even life and death with real weapons.

Cant even begin to imagine what it would be like for a person to have to go into battle, with your life on the line!

The battle was very cool, as were the dragons (although how the f did the other 2 just suddenly break out of their chains and through a wall?). But why on earth wouldn't Sansa tell Jon about help from the Vale? That nugget of info would have saved thousands of lives, not to mention an awesome giant. And what was all that shit about not being asked for her counsel? Not to mention the sisterhood of the daughters with the evil dads.

No idea what's going to happen next week. Without an epic duel, it looks set to be a bit dull.

Just wondering what book readers (all 3 of you?) actually think will happen. Anybody who doesn't want book spoilers or is allergic to uber-nerd don't read any further:

Obviously some of the events in the series are completely impossible in the books. The greyjoy siblings are prisoners of Stannis, Davos is looking for Rickon, the Umbers and Grovers support Stannis, Stannis' daughter is nowhere near him to be torched (perhaps he orders via Raven?), Tyrion is not with Dany, Sansa is in the Vale and has never met Ramsay, there is also no way the Vale army is getting to the North, Bran ain't going nowhere, Brienne is likely luring Jamie to the SH noose.

Stannis obviously can't get offed by Brienne, so what is his fate? Does Ramsay beat him or does he hand Ramsay his arse and effectively get to where we are now in the place of John? Could it be that the Vale becomes a player together with the White Harbour fleet? Does Cersei get her duel?

One thing I was worried about was that the show would ruin the books, but that hasn't been the case at all. The two have become so different that if the next book ever comes out there will be plenty of new stuff and surprises.
