Having a look at the East Coast squad I see that Josh Coffin is a loan player. He's previously played for King Country. Also Joe Royal is another loan player.

@Bovidae Renata Roberts-Te Nana is in thier squad too, played for us at the back end of last season after returning from MLR, unsure if this is as a loan player, probably not.

        Reckon he will score plenty!

@taniwharugby I didn't list him as that had already been mentioned. He is listed as a Ruatoria City player. They have 4 loan players in their squad.

Joe Royal has been around a bit hasn't he? Wasn't he with a few teams before Counties-Manakau? He actually got a fill in run with Moana Pasifika too didn't he? And is Joe Coffin a relation to Joe the prop (I think) that was around a few years back? Will be interesting to see a few Heartland games live on sky this season too.

@Dan54 Josh Coffin is the son of Phil Coffin, former KC and AB prop.

Thames Valley play the New Zealand Harlequin Rugby Club in a preseason game in the first of the triple-header at FMG Stadium Waikato on Saturday (Kickoff 11.35 am).

Horowhenua Kapiti and Whanganui have only named an extended/wider training squad and still have to announce their final squads for the Heartland Championship.

3 players there I recognise with links to my home district Onewhero and an ex Te Rapa player. A couple of them pretty decent competitive sheep shearers.

@mikedogz Ollie Foote being one. He's down in Dunedin and was part of the Highlanders U20s. Bloody quick at 1st XV level so could do some damage here. Is Kaleb a brother?

A couple of Hamilton Marist loan players in there too. Quinn Collard is a player who I thought might make the Waikato squad in recent years but has never made that step up. I'll have to watch the KC game on Sky.

Yes, Oliver Foote who will be playing with his brother Kaleb (Gun Shearer, ex Hamilton Old Boys, Onewhero.) Bristowe is the ex Te Rapa now Marist player and The father of Josh Balme (Youngest ever Golden Shears Novice Champion when he was 13) used to live and work in the wider Onewhero District before moving to King Country.

I played a few senior games with father of the Foote boys. I played with the Uncle and father of Heath MacEwan who you would know also.

I've noticed that several Heartland Unions have named a women's team, this year. Some for the first time.

And there's the beginning of a competition, too. For example, I saw on the King Country Facebook page, that they're playing Poverty Bay, Thames Valley, Wairarapa Bush and NP East Coast. There have already been games against women's development teams from FPC provinces.

Really cool to see the women's game also growing in the Heartland provinces.

@Stargazer There was a Waikato Women's Development Series played which had 4 teams and included Thames Valley and Waitete. I would assume that the latter is the King Country team.

The East Coast and Bullet teams look stacked.
But why is someone like Quinn Ngawati playing for Mid Canterbury?
Dwayne Sweeney has been around a wee while now....

@Stargazer There was a Waikato Women's Development Series played which had 4 teams and included Thames Valley and Waitete. I would assume that the latter is the King Country team.

No, the King Country team is comprised of players from throughout the province.

I didn't know either way, but that would make sense with Taupo etc. Maybe some Oto players are also involved?
