A lot of people were saying they were interested in how McMahon would fare.

2 knock ons, 1 penalty, line out win, some good carries. He was not an key asset.

McCalman didn't fare much better but didn't make any mistakes.

Don't know who Australia go with for the third test in the 8 jersey.

At least that plan would allow McMahon to play 7 which would be better than visca versca but moving forward they need to get Holloway at 8 once he's back fit, get Pocock/McMahon at 7 then have McMahon/Hooper off the bench.

Physically he might take a pounding and can't see Hoopah adding much at scrumtime and it is hard to throw sand in your opposite's face from 8.

In the short term test 3 i'd be giving Leroy Houston a crack at 8. Nothing to lose - at least he's proper 8 and used to playing v English players/style.

I'm not putting the boot into Cheika, have a look at page 4 and 5 of this thread and the aussie vs kiwi impressions of him. He might have been a great club/superrugby coach but he's not a great international coach.
You don't see it though. The way this team is losing - the culture is different. In the sheds they look up to Cheika. He made it in the fashion industry so it's just a matter of time until the Bledisloe is home.

Lol. People are calling for Quade to come back because Foley isn't up to it.

Wallabies were dumb or naive though. Easy to defend against one out runners while the defense commit nobody to the ruck. As well, Wallabies were being physically knocked back and dominated at the collision. I kept yelling, "pick and go" at the screen. They didn't listen to me...Another problem was the midfield combo lacked any creativity. Crash and bash when a bit of guile was needed. The rush defense of the Poms worked a treat because of the lack of variation in attack. Phipps' weaknesses were very evident as well.. He wasn't directing his forwards in the right directions and because he posed no threat around the ruck the Pommy forwards fanned out across the park. From what I saw sometimes there wasn't anybody defending behind the ruck but he would just keep throwing it out to where the Pommy forwards were defending. Just dumb. Coaches and the tactics need to take the brunt of the criticism.

"Some good carries" - I must have missed those. He had a total of 13 metres carried for the test. Not a great output for your no8 when you consider the weight of possession.

He had a total of 13 metres carried for the test. Not a great output for your no8 when you consider the weight of possession.

Nah the stats show I think he beat 2-3 defenders in making those (Admittedly low) 13 metres, usually he made the gain line.

The point I was trying to make is that he didn't show well because he knocked it on twice and gave away a penalty to boot.

That said if you want to press the point and even take away his running game from last night's performance and say he was crap at everything I won't defend him because from what
I can tell I am one of his biggest detractors. I am record as saying that I didn't rate him before the game started. But to be fair to him I tried to watch him carefully
last night so I could do a balanced assessment of him.

My major gripe with him is that he adds little during rucks, he rarely executes a turnover. I am also personally biased against him as I think he is a pretty boy and gets
rated due to his GQ good looks.
